Publisher's summary
After fifteen years of tending goal for the Boston Rebels, I’m known for two things: the highest save percentage in the league, and never spending more than one night with the same woman.
I’m definitely not the guy you should trust with your best friend’s little sister. Especially not when that sister, Jules, is eight years younger and my new roommate.
When I witness her on the verge of a panic attack while being intimidated by another man, I don’t think twice about calling her my fiancée and kissing her. Which brings me to the third thing I’m known for: reckless and impulsive decision-making.
After a video of that steamy kiss goes viral, the whole world is convinced we’re engaged. If we don’t play along, I risk losing my place as the starting goalie for the Rebels, and Jules’s reputation and career could tank.
Our engagement may be fake, but the memories of the way she tastes, and the feel of her body wrapped around mine, are all too real. And the more time we spend together, the less it feels like pretending.
None of the secrets from my past seem to matter as much when I’m with her. It turns out, Jules may have some secrets of her own–and uncovering them just might be what heals me…or what finally breaks me.

In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. Loved it! 5 stars
I love hockey romances and have newly discovered Julia Connors' books. Fake Shot is book 2 in the Boston Rebels series. I loved Center Ice, the first book and was excited for book 2. I listened to the audio, and I loved how the narrators brought the characters to life.
Connor Crais and Stella Bloom told Colt and Jules' story to perfection. I felt the emotions of the characters and they told the story, that kept me glued to every word. The characters connection was felt with every word and action.
Colt is a professional hockey player, and the best friend of Jules' brother. Jameson has told Colt many times that Jules is off limits. He has tried to stay away but would do anything to protect her. Colt has been burned by a relationship in the past.
Jules works with her sister Audrey and the two have made a great business and run an all women one. They help to also give women a new start with their non-profit. Jules has trust issues. A mistake marriage at nineteen, a crush on Colt for much of her life, Jules wants Colt, but will he give in.
After a night of Colt trying to protect Jules, a fake relationship starts. While their relationship starts as friends and fake fiancées, it turns into a lot of electric embraces, and the two must learn how to trust, how to open their hearts and give in to real love.
I just loved Jules and her character's growth. And Colt, he was the best you could ask for. Together these two were everything and more!
If you are a fan of hockey romances, Julia Connors is a must!

Another GOAL made for the Boston Rebels
Guys, I absolutely LOVED Center Ice so I was rearing & ready to go when Fake Shot hit my box & Julia Connors delivers people!!!🙌🙌 She comes screaming through the door with another audio that I couldn't press pause for. I am absolutely MAD over Colt & Jules!
This is just such a fun listen. End of story! When authors say, "it's a slow burn," Julia freaking means it! This burned so slow but when it HIT, baby did it HIT! Colt & Jules have known each other forever. He's her brother's best friend so feelings she's had for him over the years have just been pushed down & thought of as impossible. The story revolves around two dynamic characters thrown together in a fake relationship that spirals into something unexpectedly genuine.
Colt, the hot & talented hockey goalie has been a player in the past. Cruising in the fast lane, he's a resident bad boy but time & age are catching up & he's realizing that he wants to take life a little slower. You wouldn't initially come to this conclusion, but Colt has some real depth to him. The longer the story played out, the more I fell hard for this guy! And the mouth on him? Whew! Julia can write the spice ya'll. I was full on blushing.🙌 Will Chapter 37 be saved & replayed, absolutely YES!
Something unexpected was how much I LOVED Jules character. In Center Ice, she seemed rather closed off & not fun but in this book, you learn where that comes from & quite honestly, she's nothing like that. I freaking LOVED this FMC. Jules is a boss babe to be worshipped! She's snarky, has a hilarious inner monologue & doesn't give a crap what people think. We'd most certainly be friends in real life. I just know it! Colt absolutely loves when she acts like a brat. It drives him mad & I was all here for it! She's a girl whose used to being in control, but with Colt she totally feels outta control & this scares her to death.
I loved the vulnerability she has with Colt. She suffers with anxiety & Julia does a wonderful job portraying & writing about this. This is why I loved her so much. You've got a gal who seems to have it all together but in reality, she's quietly scared & fearful. Julia weaves together trust, ambition & vulnerability into this story which makes their story feel personal & familiar.
🎧Let's talk narration...Stella & Connor were honestly perfectly cast in this. Stella brings all the snarkiness, strength & the unguarded aspect of Jules to life. I absolutely loved her in this role. Connor already knows how to play this fiddle. He completely captures Colt's protective nature & sensitive side. These two together give you all the delightful banter, humor & emotional depth you want in an amazing audio. This one just hits all the right notes guys! YOU need this in AUDIO! Highly recommend this one!
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite hockey series on audio. Julia writes dialogue that just sparkles & draws you right into Colt & Jules playful rivalry & heart tugging moments. You just can't help but root for them.

Great Dual Narration
A cute mix of roommates with a fake engagement contemporary hockey romance. Colt, a goalie for the Rebels is one big softie at heart, but yet fierce protector, when it comes to Jules, his best friend’s sister, which leads to being fake-engaged to her and lots of fun banter and moments. I appreciated the sub-plot of empowering women in the trades too! I am so happy I got to experience this book on audio, as the dual narration was so well done and spot on with voicing emotions. I appreciated the opportunity from the author and Wordsmith to listen and enjoy.

Absolutely amazing
I absolutely LOVED IT!! The voice actors chosen added a whole new level to the characters, they were picked so perfectly. As for the story itself, I loved it. I always love brothers best friend troupes and the family dynamic with Jules and her big brother added a whole new level of protectiveness that I didn't know I needed. I loved them so much and the ending was beautiful.

This Audio Introduced Me To Julia Connors
Jules and Colt stole my attention from the start of this book and held it until the last page.
This best friend's sister, fake engagement, and unrequited love romance will have you loving them too!
Colt has been the typical hockey star, and I loved him for always just being who he is.
Jules is shy and standoffish. She loves hard but only those that are close to her. She keeps her guard up.
Stella Bloom and Connor Crais are two that I always enjoy listening to. I loved their narration of this book. The chemistry between the characters was read perfectly between these two. The tone of Connor and Stella is done so well that you will not be able to stop listening once you start. I could listen to these two all the time.

Colt and Jules
This book is the second installment in the Boston Rebels series and follows Colt, a former playboy and teammate of Jules' brother, and Jules, a strong entrepreneur in a male-dominated industry. When Colt impulsively claims that Jules is his fiancée to help her out of a difficult situation, they find themselves in a fake engagement. Despite the pretense, their undeniable chemistry leads to a slow-burning romance that allows them to open up to each other, deepening their connection. The audiobook, narrated by Stella Bloom and Connor Crais, enhances the story, bringing the characters and their emotional journey to life. It's a perfect hockey romance and one you definitely want to add to your TBR.

More Rebels Greatness! Fabulous Story & Listen🎧
After listening to and loving my first Julia Connors’ book, “Center Ice”, I was looking forward to what came next in her amazing “Boston Rebels” series, a series of standalone sports romance novels, and she did not disappoint. This second book of the series is Mathieu “Colt” Coltier and Jules Flynn’s story, a story that not only captivated my attention the entire time, but tugged at my heartstrings, too. Colt, a professional hockey player and goalie for the Rebels, is Jules’ older brother’s best friend, and she has had a crush on him for as long as she could remember. Though he never saw her as anything but his friend’s little sister and he unknowingly broke her heart and drove her to do something she regretted, something she needed bailing out of. Forced to see him over the years, they kept it cordial and kept up their usual banter. Colt’s condo gets flooded, so he asked Jameson for a favor, a place to stay until he could move back in, and he offers him his former residence, a place in the family home, and where Jules lives. Jules was not happy about this and told her brother to make sure Colt stays only in his space and out of hers. Except that is not to happening and Colt spills into her space, more and more, and then into her life, more and more, so much so he becomes her fake fiance. I loved how everything played out in this multi-layered story, and it was great to watch these two navigate around each other with him finally seeing her as something more than his best friend’s little sister, way more. It was also great to watch them overcome their insecurities and deal with their inner demons. This wonderfully plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and a slow burn, but so worth the wait, steamy romance. Julia Connors, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Connor Crais and Stella Bloom were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, and they did an amazing job portraying them, giving each a voice that was fitting and believable. Crais nailed it as Colt, showcasing his personality and demeanor perfectly, and Bloom did the same as Jules and was just as fabulous. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. Their pacing was great, and they handled the banter and witty dialogue effortlessly. These two made a great team, their voices and talent complemented each other and their performance elevated this already amazing story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

I absolutely loved this story
I have a crush on this book.
This story is phenomenal I really really enjoyed it
The character development is absolutely fantastic it starts out where she's just 19 and has this huge crush and as most crushes go he doesn't pay her any mind but the story just continues but what I think I liked most is she is such a strong woman and she develops into this wonderful woman adult running her in business and then over on male dominant business but she still has this crush and you can feel those feelings we've all had this Crush those feelings are there on the paper the author did a wonderful job of having you feel those feelings with her the story is just so good and the narrators did such a fantastic job of bringing this to life this was such a fun lesson in fact it was so good I didn't once I started it I absolutely didn't want to stop listening I would highly recommend this story to anyone I am falling in love with this author and her books if you haven't listened to any of her books you should listen to the first one of this it's a series and it was the first one is on her sister I would highly recommend both of them they're both phenomenal.

Reformed playboy and the girl boss
Cole is known for being a playboy. Jules is a no nonsense girl boss, and the younger sister of Cole's best friend.
This is one of my favorite tropes, so I have read a lot of it. This one is definitely a contender for a favorite.
The narration of this book was absolutely EPIC. Connor brought the alpha necessary to the role of Cole. Stella brought the intricacies of Jules to life. I forgot I was listening to an audiobook, I felt completely immersed in the story.
