About this listen

If only my feelings were as fake as this "relationship" with my former teammate.

Cullen: I’ve been the NFL’s “problem child” since my rookie year. If there’s trouble, I’ll find it.

But my biggest weakness has always been Houston McRae. We were secretly together in college before it blew up in our faces.

So when I see him again years later, you’d think I’d know better than to end up in an airport bathroom stall tearing his clothes off.

To make matters worse, because of mistakes I’ve made, I find out afterward that I’m being traded to Denver.

Where Houston lives. Because of course.

I’m not taking responsibility for the two of us ending up in a fake relationship. That’s all on him, but I can’t pretend I won’t enjoy it. As long as I don’t let myself fall for him again, I’ll be fine, right?

Houston: I lived, breathed, and slept football until an injury sidelined me for life. Now, I’m solely focused on finding my place again, until Cullen Atwood walks back into my life and tempts me into an airport bathroom stall, where every ounce of passion for him I thought I’d buried returns with a vengeance.

Now he’s playing for the Rush.

And staying in my apartment.

And did I mention he’s also my fake boyfriend who makes it clear he still wants me every chance he gets?

I’ve got my future to think about though, and we’re one wrong move from becoming a tabloid headline. I can’t afford to think of Cullen as anything more than a casual hook-up.

So why do I keep wishing this relationship was real?

False Start is a low angst, high-heat sports romance in the Playing for Keeps series.

Nice story but not very deep

I am a huge Neve Wilder fan, she writes incredibly hot scenes and characters that just have chemistry off the chart. This story covers both those essentials but it’s just too short to get very deep or build out on some of the key sub plots and past emotions that are driving the MC’s in this novel. But it is still a good read.

Russo does a very nice job and is a top shelf narrator.

Easy 7.5/10

Fantastic second book in the series

I was really looking forward to this one and it was as good as I hoped. Hope there is another book to come. Took these characters so long to figure it all out, but the ride was worth it. Hope these authors collaborate on more in the future.

Another football story but so good!

I really love Cullen and how much he is in love with Houston. Their back and forth banter is their love language but is somehow so sweet. I admire how well Houston handles not being able to play along with Cullen and his brother. That would be incredible hard to watch. Don’t miss this 2nd book in the series.

A Sweet and Sultry Love Story!

This was such a fantastic listen. I loved every bit of this story: the characters, the second chance romance, the heat between them, and they were also so cute together. I love how Houston and Cullen complimented eachother, one helping to ground the other and steady him and one helping the other to step more out of his comfort zone and to be more impulsive. They balanced eachother in the best way. It’s always nice every now and again to listen to something not overly angsty as well. Great narration too! 5/5, I would listen to this again!

Least favorite of the 3 but still good

This one was my least favorite of the 3 in the series but not because of any issues with the story itself but a personal thing. It's me but you lol I'm not a huge fan if 2nd chance romances. It's just not my jam.

Having said that it was still a solid story with fantastic narration! Seriously, Nick Russo is a stellar voice actor. I don't understand why I'm just hearing him on a series. He's's phenomenal! Definitely a new fav!

Overall I absolutely LOVED this series and I REALLY hope there's more books to come!
