Publisher's summary

He saw what you did.

He knows who you are....

From the New York Times best-selling author of Pieces of Her and The Silent Wife, an electrifying stand-alone thriller.

An ordinary life...

Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be.

...hides a devastating past...

But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

...but now the past is catching up...

Then a case lands on her desk - defending a wealthy man accused of rape. It’s the highest profile case she’s ever been given - a case that could transform her career, if she wins. But when she meets the accused, she realizes that it’s no coincidence that he’s chosen her as his attorney. She knows him. And he knows her. More to the point, he knows what happened 20 years ago and why Leigh has spent two decades running.

...and time is running out.

If she can’t get him acquitted, she’ll lose much more than the case. The only person who can help her is her estranged younger sister Callie, the last person Leigh would ever want to ask for help. But suddenly she has no choice....

Great book

I don’t often write reviews, this book is great, on the reviews some people talked of being politically wrong, there was zero politics, she talks about the pandemic and mask wearing, who ever wrote the reviews are obviously anti maskers and anti vaccinations, please don’t miss out on this great book because of that. Enjoy, it’s exciting, I’ve read ( listened to ) over 800 audibles and this is definitely a great one.

2 psychos for the price of 1

Very unexpected. The story kept me on my toes. The author has a way of writing that keeps you amused, wondering, and suspenseful.
Including the issues of the Day, really gave the storyline a sense of stability.

Pronunciation is key

The book is great but the audiobook really took me out of the story when the narrator continued to pronounce the beloved Georgia mascot UGA’s name as ooga. I had to stop listening and switch to a physical copy.

Great story, as always

Karin Slaughter is THE master at thrillers. I love all of her books, and this is no exception. It was interesting to read a book like this set within the context of the pandemic. There were some parts at the beginning that just seemed so unbelievable, but by the end I didn’t even care. This book made me angry, it made me laugh, and at one point I was literally sobbing (that vet character really got me). This narrator is like listening to an old friend, at this point.

karin slaughter, light of my life

karin slaughter is a fantastic writer. complex characters, sturdy dialogue, fascinating plot lines. i loved reading a book she wrote without a cop focus and appreciate that her characters across her series are fully fleshed out and human with dementia, addiction, dyslexia, vision impairment and chronic pain (to name a few). having a new KS book at this point in the pandemic - and interestingly set in the current time instead of being timeless - this was a salve of sorts and i listened to it slowly so i could enjoy it completely. this was hard as i like to barrel through a book or two a day while i work.

kathleen early is my favorite narrator (george guidall is my other favorite) and her voice is so comforting. i will re listen to this one eventually, and look forward to it.

get the book, you won’t regret it!!!

Fantastic story.

This book was so full of secrets and horror and love, I couldn’t have asked for anything more. It took me into the life of a junkie and showed just how hard it is to stay clean. The live of the sisters for each other and the live of a good man. WOW!

True Karin Slaughter

She’s one of my favorite authors and this book doesn’t disappoint! A few difficult parts to listen to. References to COVID, masks, social distancing really bugged me while listening but the author explains it at the end of the story. I’m a big fan and read/listen to all of her books!

Opinions

The author felt the need to go on a rant about COVID and how people have reacted. She wants to act neutral but she clearly is not. I finally just shut the Dear Reader portion off. It’s like actors, I for one don’t care what they think.
