About this listen
In Lance K Ewing’s first Novel, readers were introduced to a cast of memorable characters spanning across three States.
In a post-apocalyptic world, where the rules have changed, Lance and his family, along with other survivors of the next-world, continue their struggle.
Each setback grievously felt, and the clashes with military forces and desperate outlaws, have drained them both physically and mentally.
But for Lance, he is left wondering how it will all end, as every day seems harder than the last. Can they reach the safety he promised everyone in one piece?
Plagued with injuries and losses, will his group make it to the halfway point of Raton Pass, New Mexico, while already enduring more than they imagined?
Vlad makes an unexpected trip to a FEMA camp without his consent, and Nancy is voted MVP of the first leg in the journey.
Is Mike misunderstood or has Lance underestimated him once again?
David’s group will suffer a devastating loss, while Mel loses everything but gains more than he could ever hope.
Mac finds love and, in return, more drama than he can handle alone.
James is reluctantly voted Mayor of Weston, Colorado, serving under a corrupt judge and sheriff with sinister plans.
Recap of Volume 1
In Families First - Post-Apocalyptic Next-World Series, Volume 1, we are introduced to a cast of characters spanning multiple locations across the United States, with each group having diverse points of view and hardships to overcome.
We learn that North Korea dropped an EMP in the center of the United States, knocking out power to all states except Hawaii, as well as parts of Canada and Mexico. With no electricity, food or running water, and few working vehicles, the country is instantly reduced to the hardships of days long gone. It’s every family for themselves in this new and hostile world.
The story begins with a Chiropractor, husband, father and starting prepper, Lance, with his wife Joy and their young boys: twins Hudson and Jax (age 4), and Hendrix (age 3), from McKinney, Texas. They band with friends and neighbors as they prepare to leave their homes and head nearly 800 miles to Saddle Ranch, in the Rocky Mountains near Loveland, Colorado.
With help from new friends, including two McKinney police officers and a former military couple, they gather a formidable group of prayerful and like-minded men, women and children.
McKinney police officer Lonnie is always cool-headed and is a great leader of people.
Lonnie convinces his old friend Vlad to join the group and bring the entire inventory from his nearly looted gun store in Plano, Texas, in return for full membership in the group and the hopeful promise of long-term safety in the Colorado mountains.
The other McKinney police officer, Mike, has a soft spot for kids, females, and anyone close to him that needs his help. This behavior is closely pared with his propensity towards violent acts with seemingly little remorse. His conduct in Volume 2, and beyond, is sure to escalate and provide the groundwork for a wild ride.
With the good Lord always watching over them, the group sets out on the journey of a lifetime in Volume Two. The cast of Saddle Ranch in Loveland, Colorado, is diverse, with more than 100 people living in the community.
John is the leader of Saddle Ranch. With the help of Bill, Sharon, and their head of security, Mac, they need to secure their territory quickly. However, they realize that nothing stays locked down tight for long.
Close by is the Church of the West, just up the road in Green Valley, with Samuel as their leader.
Working together, but still maintaining their separate groups, they do their best to secure the four miles across the valley where they all live, surrounded by foothills and mountains.
In Raton Pass, New Mexico, halfway between McKinney, Texas, and Loveland, Colorado, live the Jenkins family; older son David with his mother Beatrice and father Dean, and David’s son, Mark.

Story
When a series of devastating terror attacks brought down the United States, Conor and Barb assumed they were safe in their compound. They had everything they needed. They were armed and highly trained. But then, Barb was kidnapped. The kidnappers didn’t know why Conor was known as The Mad Mick. They didn’t know the fear and respect his name invoked in the shadowy underworld of covert operations. They didn’t know that when it came to protecting his family, he was without conscience, without compassion, and without equal. But they would soon find out.

Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Story
The West's own governments are giving up, have already lost, or are leading the charge to something else. This doesn't sit well with those who believe in liberty. This is the story of a people who have lost the political fight, they've lost the culture wars, they haven't seen a level playing field in a generation, and they are about to be made serfs. None of that matters. They're leaving....

Sound effects
This is the draw back on this series. Sound Effects! Twice I almost had a heart attack listening to this book driving down the hwy. The sound of explosions or gun shots nearly made me wreck. Do not listen and drive. Story is good.

I absolutely love this narrator very talented.
Frank block is one of the best narrators that I've ever heard. He has such a unique voice it really cheers me up. I know this is going to sound absolutely lame and loser like of me. but I could totally see me and the other couple of my result good code best friends all getting along and I totally think Frank block would be like a really good friend that we would all get along with. if anyone has any information on any other audio books that he has done the narrator Frank block please leave a comments for this book so I can find out what other books he does. And I love the fact that he's just knows all his doing voices and he also just has such as unique words I keep saying that but he just seems like he could be a true Christian I believe he must be a believer in Christ I might be wrong. but there's something in my heart and spirit that says that this narrator is a believer in Jesus which would be really awesome because I'm a Believer in Christ Jesus as well. When I want to know a good narrator I always compare them to if I would be good friends with by there personalities and how they read. I think everyone who likes post apocalyptic fiction books with love this series called Families First. I'm now going out to book at 3 I started listening to the series when the very first book of the series came out the day that it came out I got it. the author of this book series is I believe a brand new author. Lance K Ewing so far I can say with full confidence he's going to be the next Jack Hunt Ryan Westfield or even better yet Mark Goodwin. I really pray that Lance k Ewing will stay writing Christian books as a Christian author. Now I believe this is a Christian book series I'm not quite sure. There is a couple of bad curse words in this book. But it's very rare there's not even I would say no more than 15 curse words in the first two books all together. So it's not very bad so I'm just assuming he's just preparing what people say in real life during the circumstances again we're all Sinners and we all fall short of the glory of God so I know a couple of friends who are Christians myself included that I accidentally said a few bad words that I should never say. Thank you Lord for your forgiveness in here died on the cross for my sins so I may have the Forgiveness that you have given to me amen. Thank you Lance K Ewing for creating such a wonderful book series I really hope there's more than just three books I really hope the series goes on for a few more books. I am extremely so very & really addicted to the series. And I really hope this goes on for another few books. so if you're reading these comments and reviews I really really really hope and pray that you were considering continuing the series now I didn't read the information about the third book that I am getting ready to start that just came out I don't know for sure if that's the last one or not I haven't read anything. But I'm really hoping and praying that it is not the last book. This is my favorite book series I can honestly say since left behind written by Tim lahaye. And that's hard for me to say because that was my favorite book series for so many years but this one has definitely trumped that book series. I am so excited about this book series I can listen to the whole book in one sitting I'm not going to lie already considering going to the book series right after I listen to the 3rd book I want to go to the mall over again that's how much I liked this book and also recommending it to all my friends and family. I really want to be a support of this book and I'm going to try my best to let as many people as possible about this 3 book series so far 3 book series let them know that they really need to check it out I want to try to get as many sales of this book as I can for this author because Lance K Ewing is an absolutely great author!!! anyway thank you all for checking out this comment I hope it helps you check out the book series and I really hope it gives you a good idea of how great & how phenomenal this book series.it's also got amazing sound effects added to the story for each of these books in all 3 audiobooks actually for all the action sequences that happen in this book series. my name is James Scott I'm 34 yesterday old & I am a Believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior & I have a awesome personal relationship with Christ Jesus!! because my Jesus rocks & he died for all of our sins & My Holy, Righteous, Glorious, & Holy Holy Holy Savior Loves you all very much. he died on the cross for all the world sins and on the third day he rose from the dead conquering death and Hell. Jesus then ascended into heaven Paradise to be at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus died on the cross so that we all could all go to be with him in Heaven. Also so we could repent & ask him into our hearts to be the Lord & Savior Of Our Lives we needed a perfect savior because we couldn't save ourselves. because we're Sinners and we can't save ourselves so our Heavenly Father God Sent His only begotten son Jesus to take our place on the cross as the perfect sacrifice because Jesus was sinless he was the only sinless person on the Earth. So in order to be forgiven have salvation to go to heaven to be with God the Father we have to go through his son the only begotten Son of God Jesus Christ. she offers the free gift of salvation for those who accept she offers the free gift of salvation for those who accept what she did for us on the cross and acknowledge that Jesus rose from the dead on the 3rd day of bring buried & then Jesus rose from the dead he's alive he's not a ghost and not a spirit alone he is a full alive person like me and you he does have the Holy Spirit which is the spirit of Jesus Christ and lives inside of us for those who believe in him. but that's the Trinity Father Son and Holy Spirit. all you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart acknowledge that you believe in what he did for us on the cross & how he rose from the dead on the third day for our sins. And ask Jesus into your heart say Lord Lord of my life I asked you to come into my heart I believe in everything you done for me I believe you died on the cross and rose from the dead and I believe you're coming back again and I believe you're the only way to heaven I believe you are the true living Son of God. And I believe that you are the only way to get to heaven like the word of God says the only way to get to the father is through his son Jesus Christ. and when you ask him is your heart to be the one of your life say thank you Jesus for becoming my savior forgive me for all my sins I receive you now thank you for receiving me and starting me fresh and making a new creation starting all over again and thank you for being my savior and I will follow you all the days of my life and I will do the best of my ability to follow you and do your will that you have for me in my life I will do the best of my ability to serve you to teach others about you to be proud to believe in you and not hide my faith. if you prayed the prayer and said those things and ask Jesus to be your savior you and I are a child of God in part of the kingdom of God and you will be in heaven and your sins are washed away and you start fresh and all the old things you found interesting and good the sinful things you won't find good and interesting anymore all the things you thought were boring things like the church and reading though Holy living breathing Holy Bible you will end up falling in love with those things trust me. first thing you should do is get a Bible and find a great prophecy end times believing church a church that's filled with the Holy Spirit. and a church that's not lukewarm at church that will teach you the real word of God and teach you about Sin and why it's wrong and why we need to do the best we can not to sin. you now can start building a personal relationship with Christ you can talk to him directly in prayer you can talk to him about your day. I talked to him all day long when I am in my room all alone I talk to him all the time out loud I got everything about my day about the tough thing is I'm going through about also the rough times but also the Great & amazing awesome times in my life. the good things I'm going through in my life as well. is with you wherever you go Jesus lives in you with the power of His Spirit that is what's going to be changing you from the inside out the more things you seek out about the Lord the more that you read the word of God the more you pray the more you worship God the more you stay close to Christ the more you will change for his Glory. God bless you to all my brothers and sisters and for all of you who did the sinner's prayer that I show all of you who didn't know how it was a Joy to share with all of you. please remember this everyone you so can talk directly to God a on your own each day. you don't need to go through a priest or Pastor to ask for forgiveness. you can go directly and straight to Jesus Christ Our Savior all ourselves. that's the only way we're supposed to do it. we're not supposed to call anyone in the church father on Earth only one father and that's the one in heaven or your father at home. you can read the word without them reading it to you so you read it for yourself and know that you know what it's saying and that way you know you're not being led astray. And you can ask for forgiveness directly to God yourself without anybody to go through all you need to do is go Lord Jesus forgive me I did this today and I'm really sorry please forgive me I repent. I won't allow myself to be that person I don't want to go back that way please give me the strength renew my mind give me the strength to be stronger and to do your will and be christ-like and show christ-like attributes so that I may be a good example to all this around me in my life. God bless you all and I'm so proud and excited for you I'm glad to hopefully know one day that you are now Brothers & Sisters in Christ & I am also now your brother in Christ Jesus our Lord. You are now my brother or sister in Christ & We will see each other in heaven we'll be together for eternity

Great World Building...Intense!!
Wow!! This story is intense with lots of things happening on the road I'd never heard in any other apocalyptic books or ever would have thought of myself. The part with the snake...not saying more...made my blood boil!! However, I could see that happening just as written. Frankly, I love Mike. Author A American has a crazy, offbeat character a lot like him in his "Home" series, who is also 1 of my absolute favorites. In a time like this, you need a person who is unpredictable and scary violent that is loyal to the group. They are gamechangers that save waaay more lives than they take...handling bullies with minions exactly how they should be handled. Too many people just give in and go along, even willing to turn on those who try to stand, but aren't scary enough, yet when they read about such historical facts always wonder why 2-3 meanies could completely overwhelm 100s, never recognizing that their refusal to stand up is exactly why situations like that happen over and over again ad nauseum. Any rate, great storyline and world building. Starting the next one now!

Kept me interested
I have ready first and second part of this series. I have gotten attached to the characters enough that I want to find out how it ends. For my taste it was a little too detailed but someone else may say that's what paints the picture in your mind as you're reading. It's a little slow in places but it makes for a good read. Overall great story line.

Slow
Little action. Some things that happen, the characters seem to act slightly less affected than you think they would, as most of these characters are mild. There’s one or two that are strong and they keep the story interesting. Will only get the next if I’m out of other options.
