The nine stories in this collection for older children include: "Wylie and the Hairy Man", "She's Got Me", "Blood Red Cedar", "Married to a Ghost", "Old Raw Head", "Ghost of Vengeance", "The Ki'in Spirits", "The Tiger's Eyes," and "Spirit of Fire."

These particular tales from Favorite Scary Stories of American Children were selected for their appropriateness for listeners in grades 4-6. The tales include "Old Raw Head", "Ghost of Vengeance", and "Spirit of Fire". The folkloric stories have been culled from around the world, and have been especially influenced by Asian culture, though listeners will hear the Ozarks in this collection as well.
Richard Young and Judy Dockrey Young have been married since 1982 and they have both made a career out of telling stories. They frequent schools and professional storytelling events, and they even perform regularly at Silver Dollar City theme park in their home state of Missouri. In these scary stories, husband and wife alternate narration.

Fun Childhood Scary Stories from Folklore
In my career as a schoolteacher, I used to use stories like this to get kids interested in reading. I even typed them up for use in the repetitive reading drills we were required to do, and they still didn’t get bored! Just read this for memories at Halloween. It’s great for kids of the age described, down to about third grade (second if they don’t get too scared). I love the Southern American origins and if older kids give it a chance, they will not regret it. Great for folklore/ghost lore buffs of all ages. Lively performance! I recommend it for a listen in the dark…before bed, if you dare!

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
Because I’m blind, I listen to books read aloud.
This performance was really good, so was the tone of voice.
Great book for the fall and for memories, had this book once as a kid.
I also like the song, it gets stuck in my head.
