About this listen

The first, epic and true story of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s life together, finally revealing why they chose to pursue a more independent path and the reasons behind their unprecedented decision to step away from their royal lives, from two top royal reporters who have been behind the scenes since the couple first met.

When news of the budding romance between a beloved English prince and an American actress broke, it captured the world’s attention and sparked an international media frenzy. But while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have continued to make headlines—from their engagement, wedding, and birth of their son Archie to their unprecedented decision to step back from their royal lives—few know the true story of Harry and Meghan.

For the very first time, Finding Freedom goes beyond the headlines to reveal unknown details of Harry and Meghan’s life together, dispelling the many rumors and misconceptions that plague the couple on both sides of the pond. As members of the select group of reporters that cover the British Royal Family and their engagements, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand have witnessed the young couple’s lives as few outsiders can.

With unique access and written with the participation of those closest to the couple, Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world.

Finding Truth

It was good to finally hear the truth about H&M. This book was fair and balanced, without name calling or being disrespectful to anyone. Family dynamics is can be difficult, but I’m sure all will be well in the end.

Meghan is finally vindicated!

I have been following the story of these two for a few years and the media really did tear Meghan apart for no real reason other than the fact that she was half black, divorced and an actress. The articles written about her were sensational tabloid junk. I really enjoyed this book. It was clear and very objective.

Propaganda pure and simple

This book told from the view of the Suxxes is so one-sided as to be laughable. According to the author, Megan Markle is nothing less than Mother Teresa and Prince Harry only second to the Pope himself. A more balanced view would have been appreciated.

Great Book!

It was a very good book! I do have to warn those nasty people who are jealous of Meghan's beauty and success prior to her marriage into the royal family, You won't like this book! It won't feed your hate! As it doesn't spew any of the lies you people love. If it's a racist, anti Meghan book full of lies, you people want, this book is not it. They should write a historical book telling in detail exactly how the Royal family got it's wealth. I know there are many Central, South American Countries, as well as African Countries and Asian Countries that would love to have the gold and precious stones the British took from them throughout the Centuries. Yet you people attack a beautiful young girl instead of an institution that has gone throughout the world, taking wealth and natural resources from every country.

GREAT!

So glad to read a more objective view. A view that makes more sense than the crazy things we hear from the tabloids!

Unless you REALLY love the royals, this is a pass

As an America, I really enjoy reading about the royals in the same way I enjoy light reality tv. I also genuinely like both Harry & Meghan & support their overall decision to leave the working royal family life. That said, I found this book to be incredibly lack luster. It felt like 10 hour Harry & Meghan hype-squad. I can count on 1 hand the number of times any critique of the couple was made, and the descriptions were downright obsequious. This was not a journalistically polished narrative and instead read more like an overly grandiose autobiography. I tried returning the book part way through and couldn’t, finishing it out of stubbornness. In 2022 I do not recommend this book. If you’re a H&M fan you’re probably already aware of the positive content, and if you are at all neutral on the couple then you’ll find the lack of critical editing in this book very frustrating.

2.5/5 stars.

Nothing New

I decided to give this a try because I thought new light would be shed on Harry and Megan and their struggles with the Royal Family. However, I didn’t gain any new insights aside from what has been reported on by news outlets and in interviews they’ve done.
Omid’s storytelling style and english accent (which I love) is the only thing that made me finish the book (I also skipped through a lot, as much of the book is a retelling of events we’ve all already heard)

Loved this book

It was nice to get the other side of the story from a trusted source, after being barraged with lies via gossip columnists for the last few years. I’m also proud of this couples decision to regain control of their lives.

Really enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed all I learned and insight into little things. I don’t understand the bad reviews! It is a compassionate perspective, which is so different from tabloid and online stories which are often so negative and fictional. My heart goes out to both of them. I don’t need to hear bad stuff about them. It entertained me. I am glad to know the ending too where they can have some peace from the constant negative attention.
