About this listen

The Serenity lands on the remote moon of Abel for a lucrative job but becomes embroiled in a young woman’s quest for vengeance and a starving frontier town’s fight for survival. Join Mal and the gang in this enthralling original tie-in novel from the award-winning series.

The Serenity crew head to Yell City, one of the settlements on Abel, a moon in the Rim. Their job: track down the killers of a local lawyer shot dead in the streets by a local gang. Their client is Annie Roberts, the eighteen-year-old daughter of the murdered man.

Lucky for them, Annie Roberts is more than capable of handling herself. Unlucky for them, the job is lot more complicated than they at first think it is. Annie’s father is not just the victim of local gang violence but also the target of some powerful men.

Taking down a local gang is one thing, but cleaning up a whole city? That’s not a job for the Serenity crew. But when their ship is impounded and Mal and the crew find themselves trapped in Yell City, they realize they are already in deeper than they could have ever imagined.

Horrible narrators

Can’t stand two narrators, should have stuck with the j foster. Ruined the experience. Please re-release it without Emily.

Split narration a little odd; still good, however

There is a split narration. It takes a little getting used to but works out by the end. It is still good to hear the series continue through everything.

Great story, bad second narrator

Loved the story and male narrator. The female narrator was inconsistent with her accents and overly dramatic.

Did not care for this one

The story is a pretty standard Firefly story, but with a lot less action.
My main problem is with this story’s additional POV character, I found her extremely pompous, boring and long-winded. The first chapter with her going on and on about “my daddy” almost made me stop listening. The slow southern nasal twang they chose for her to give the country gal impression did not help either.
All in all, if you are not a super fan I would not spend a credit on this one, it adds nothing to the story.

True Grit

Firefly redo of the classic True Grit. Right down to the brash loud mouth one arm girl with murdered father, hell bent out for revenge/ justice on them that done it. That movie (even the remake) are still one of my favorites. This spin on it from Firefly perspective left me GORAM disappointed.
Mainly I didn’t like the narration, woman’s voice was finger nails dragging on backboard irritation and splitting back and forth was just wrong and disturbing Jane Cobb riding in on the mule guns blazing was expected and entertaining but he’s no John Wayne. I highly recommend the movies but I warn you that when I I said “I thought JEFF BRIDGES did a good job on the remake my wife got in my face and told me that he was “NO JOHN WAYNE” I still hear about that

Narrator changes by alternating chapters

This was irritating to me. I have come to enjoy and admire the narrator if the previous series, glad to hear him again, but the new narrator in the alternating chapters took a long time for me to get used to and I still haven't come around to enjoying those chapters.

Two narrators, no good

Book was good. Narration was not. Either stick with a single narrator or assign specific characters to specific narrators. Hearing the same character speak with different voices is distracting and confusing. To hear any character, Malcolm Reynolds for instance, speak in one chapter with a man’s voice and in the next with a woman’s voice is confusing. Most decent narrators have specific voices they use for specific characters, this not only makes the reading more enjoyable but it lets the reader know who is currently speaking. To have more than one person doing the voice for the same character is just plain stupid. What were you thinking?

Another great Firefly story

In the log list of stories in the Firefly series, this one is another good compelling story. Will look forward to future releases

My favorite series

Staying true to the characters 100%. Although not used to having a female narrator, it worked. I would love to know how to talk like this in real life. The vocabulary is one of my favorite things about this sci-fi Western . I truly hope there are more of these in the future.
