wow!

Ok.... I absolutely had to post .Wow! Just wow! The only issue I have is that I have to sleep sometimes and can't listen 24 hrs a day ! I love everything about this story. The narration is top notch(of course) the intrigue, changing alliance, politics, battles... just wow! So glad I found this set. Just starting book 7 and I can't wait

A must listen/read cross between firefly and Andromeda Ascendent

This series is great and it touches on things others have only hinted at. The corporations.

While having some enjoyable character development and showing us the effects of stress on the mind and body I have to rate this up with my favorite science fiction series (Enders game, undying mercenaries, expeditionary force, and lost fleet. Each of these series has amazing qualities and I rank first command with them in my eyes. A series I will buy the physical copies of and have them signed when I can.

Now like most series the beginning was a little slow at times and I normally work or workout while I listen however the father in you get the more you want to hear. I have already got my eyes on the next books because I must know the end of this great series!!!

I love space sagas but this was just a little off the mark. could have condensed all 6 books into 2.

Inconsistencies.

in space, you cannot simply reverse direction. You may reverse thrust but the author here has been reversing direction which isn’t feasible. Also he has the destroyer as the bigger ship than the cruiser.

American Nationalisim and misogyny and some space

narration is excellent, as typical for Mark Boyette, sort is ok if you can get past main characters constant internal depression monolog about duty to God and country (Both America) and what fragile misguided creatures women are, and how everything would be better if everyone gave up their own hopes to just serve and support their country.

Probably will not Finish

Started out pretty good and Capt was smart, but then got boring, and like another reviewer said - stupid mistakes were being made that didn't make sense. And humans have obviously advanced but can't give a man an artificial heart?? I made it through most of Book 2 but doubt I will finish. Male characters, despite there being women in positions of authority, were quite chauvinistic in their attitudes and speech. I am used to this from SF writers of the 50's-80's but now? Also, and this is just a pet peeve that became irritating... I felt sorry for narrator Boyett having to repeat "Earth year 2290" at the end of every chapter title (of which there are many).... I know I got tired of hearing it... why not just say it at the beginning and then change when the date actually changes. Well maybe there is time travel involved in the later chapters I haven't read. Just not really interested anymore to find out.

Corporate space wars

These books have many spaceships, crews and corporations, working with and against each other. You may need notes. If that sounds good, then this will be a good series for you.

I'm rating this based on how well the series delivers on First Command, going into the minds of one captain after another, solving the problems faced by the spacecraft. Unfortunately, for me, it felt like I was getting acquainted with one chess piece after another, without ever getting a grasp on the full chessboard. When I revisit this series, I'll need to take better notes. Perhaps a cheat sheet could have helped me.
