About this listen

Reeling from the devastation of Dust & Decay, Benny Imura and his friends plunge deep into the zombie-infested wastelands of the great Rot & Ruin. Benny, Nix, Lilah, and Chong journey through a fierce wilderness that was once America, searching for the jet they saw in the skies months ago. If that jet exists, then humanity itself must have survived somewhere.

Finding it is their best hope for having a future and a life worth living. But the Ruin is far more dangerous than any of them can imagine. Fierce animals hunt them. They come face to face with a death cult. And then there' s the zombies - swarms of them coming from the east, devouring everything in their paths. And these zoms are different.

Faster, smarter, and infinitely more dangerous. Has the zombie plague mutated, or is there something far more sinister behind this new invasion of the living dead? One thing Benny and his companions can' t afford to forget: In the great Rot & Ruin, everything wants to kill you.

About time!

I was waiting forever for the audio release. I even wrote Jonathan Maberry to find out when it was coming out and told me it wasn't, my hopes were dashed in ever finishing the story. Well, it was a welcomed surprise to see it one day sitting in the pre-order section.

This story fills outs the questions from the first two books, but opens more up at what will happen in next book. In this book we find a death cult group and learn about new types of zombies. Not to spoil anything, but if you have read other Maberry books, a certain character pops up in the middle of this one. That put a big ol' smile on my face.

From the sounds of it, the next book will be the last one.

wait, but..

Why does Joe Ledger say they probably will never know how the plague starts? Joe talked to Des and Billy he knows what went down for real.

I was waiting for the big reveal but never got it!

I started with Broken Lands, then went through the Rot and Ruin series. Then I realised Dead of Night was the beginning so I started there!
Now I'm working my way through the complete tale and just noticed this one bit that doesn't seem to fit.

Love it otherwise !

Author's note says it all.

This book shows another aspect of a warrior that many forget about. This book is a little repetitive to reflect some of the previous books. Still enjoyable and teachable.

Flesh & bone

All I can say is get through book 1 and the series takes off. I am thoroughly enjoying this series and really can’t wait to start the next. Each character develops nicely and when we lose one, it kinda hurts

A bit of a departure but Great story

Admittedly it was a challenge to get into this book. It was a bit of a change from the previous two installments not just in the story but the tone. It certainly picks up and gets better, rising to greatness similar to its predecessors. Not quite as amazing as the first two but still an amazing ‘read’

First Thought when Finished: Dang that epilogue--Flesh and Bone by Jonathan Maberry made me cry---AGAIN!

Overall Thoughts:Jonathan Maberry is one of those writers that I adore. He writes stories that make you scream, laugh, and cry. Even though this is a YA series, the teenagers seem to have a better world view than the adults. There is a little angst but overall this is a world where you have people to root for. I would never survive the Zombie Apocalypse.

Audio Thoughts:

Narrated By Brian Hutchinson / Length: 10 hrs and 46 mins

I really enjoy Brian's narration of this series. He is great at hitting all the different emotions and character moments.
