Publisher's summary
Do you want your life to count for Christ? Would you like to make a real impact for God's kingdom in this world? You can, and you don't have to be a great leader for it to happen. Just a good follower.
In Following Christ, Joseph Stowell shows why Christ's command to "follow me" isn't merely the starting point of Christianity. It's the very heartbeat of vibrant, effective faith. And it's not just for a few gifted leaders, but for all believers.
"Christianity is a relationship, an adventure, a passionate pursuit of Christ," says Stowell. "Followers escape the drudgery of a system of rituals and regulations, and revel in the discovery of the ever-interesting Christ." Stowell shows you what happens when an ordinary man or woman pursues not the trappings of Christianity, but Christ himself. You'll discover:
- What a "non-negotiated" follower looks like
- Why God does his best work through followers
- Why self-directed living is a recipe for emptiness
- What makes Christ so worth following
- How Christ transforms our character
- What it means to pick up your cross
- Why a close walk with Jesus is the key to effective living
This inspiring book cuts through the side issues of Christianity to reveal its true, compelling object: Jesus Christ. As his fully devoted follower, you'll discover a dynamic and refreshing way of living one that will sustain you through life's valleys and provide breathtaking spiritual vistas from its peaks.
It's Christianity the way God intended it, marked by simplicity. Vigorous faith. Purpose and direction. Soul-winning impact on those around you. And above all, a joyous, growing closeness with Christ.

Story
Many pastors struggle to translate their theological beliefs into fruitful ministry in the places they are called to reach. It’s not enough to simply know what to believe (theology), or on the other hand, how to do ministry (methodology) - they need something in between. They need help thinking about ministry in a culture that no longer believes Christianity is a force for good, let alone the source of ultimate revealed truth in the person of Christ.

With the original Evidence That Demands a Verdict, best-selling author Josh McDowell gave Christian audiences the answers they needed to defend their faith against the harshest critics and skeptics. Now, with his son Sean McDowell, Josh McDowell has updated and expanded this classic resource for a new generation. This is a book that invites listeners to bring their doubts.

Is successful leadership measured simply by the outcomes a leader achieves, or is there another - more essential - yardstick for measuring success? In Redefining Leadership, author, pastor, and college president Joe Stowell shows us that the best leaders are driven by Christ-formed character, and that truly successful leadership is not defined by the standards of this world but by the counter-intuitive practices and perspectives of the Kingdom of Christ.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Mine is a "Buyer Beware" Story: Full vs Abridged
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, although I am disappointed that over half of the actual book is missing.
Would you be willing to try another book from Joseph M. Stowell? Why or why not?
Yes, as an author and scholar of the Christian faith and walk, he is one of the excellent teachers of our time.
Have you listened to any of Joseph M. Stowell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No - this is the first on audiobook.
Was Following Christ worth the listening time?
It was, but it fell short of what I needed - I really needed an UnAbridged edition.

Book - 16 Chapters. Audio - 4 Chapters.
I was in a Bible Study about this book, so when I bought this Audio Book, I was shocked to realize this Audio Book is only 4 Chapters, when the book is 16 Chapters. No where in the description does it say this or explain it before you buy.
The Author decided to pick-and-choose random stories and sections of his book instead of reading his entire book and I have no idea why. Maybe one day there will be an Audio Book of the entire/actual book.

Only has 4 chapters!!
I was upset to discover that the audio book only contained 4 chapters. No where in the description did it say this was not the full book. I needed to catch up for a Bible study so I wanted to listen to it on my commute. I had already read the first 6 chapters so this was a total waste of money. The book itself is actually very good and I would recommend it. Just don't waste your money on this audio version
