Publisher's summary

All it took was one sizzling encounter with my brother’s best friend to get me pregnant. A one-night stand that scorches the sheets—moments I can't erase.

Olivia

Miami's heat matches the sparks that fly when I crash into him—Zac, the rugged police officer who's also my brother's best friend. I am ready for this devilishly mature lawman to take me into his custody. His commanding presence draws me in.

Zac

Caught in the chaotic whirl of Miami's bustling night, I collide with Olivia. Her fiery curves ignite a forbidden hunger within me. The kind that defies rules and logic. She's the temptation I never saw coming.

Back in LA, my world is neatly compartmentalized as a single dad, but Olivia shatters those walls with her brilliance and sass.

Yet, the question lingers: Can we balance duty, parenthood, and the intoxicating pull of a surprise pregnancy?

Sheriff

This is a short erotic story. The story line is light with hot scenes. The focus is on erotic content, and much less so on the character development or the romance. Zac is Olivia’s brother’s best friend, as well as a single dad. He is about 10 years her senior. They bump into each other in Miami, and acknowledge they have always been attracted to each other. Due to a hotel blunder they end up bunking together. One thing leads to another, and they act on their attraction. The narration was good. Brother's Best Friend Romance

This was an adorable novella. Broken-hearted MMC falls in love with his best friend's younger sister. FMC has always had a thing for the MMC. A slip-up by the FMC's assistant causes the characters to link up under weird circumstances. The spice is just right, and there is a HEA. Narration of this novella will pull you into the novella.

Olivia and Zac’s Random Meeting . . .

Olivia is a 25-year-old who has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend, Zac. Zac, now a 35-year-old single dad, is a Sheriff in NY. They arrive in Miami and need to stay in the same room after a booking problem. Both admitting to their attraction for each other, they get carried away and have a one-night-stand. He does track her down when she disappears the next morning. Is he intending to start a relationship with her? Will her brother have an objection (not that it should matter in the least since they are clearly adults)? And will they have another little surprise to deal with after that night together? The narrator for the audiobook version, Daphne Fields, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Narration for female was good, not enough differential between male and female voices, otherwise ok.

So Much Wrong in Such a Small Package

Unfortunately, this book suffers from many faults. A couple stems from the fact that this is a very quick-listen novella, just a few minutes over an hour long. Because it is so short, there's no room for actual character or plot development. As is typical far too often in novellas, the author tries to shoe-horn far too much into the short form, taking us from one-night stand to baby news in a whirlwind that hits the necessary highlights but with no nuance. What probably should have been at least a longer novella is instead piteously short. Frankly, this comes across as more erotica than a proper romance. However, the way the intimate scenes are described, and some other word choices just come across as repetitive and childish. This is just so poorly written. My gut instinct tells me it was ghostwritten by someone paid by the word who doesn't care about quality or doesn't understand what quality is. Further, the publisher didn't care enough either to put out a decent product. Some word choices and descriptions are actually laughable … they are so bad. (Men don’t wear perfume; they wear cologne. You wouldn’t refer to a man’s body as a “figure.”) Also, some things just made little sense. Why would these two meet in Miami when they’re from New York? As this is an audiobook, I can't quite remember if they were supposed to be from New York City or New York state, but either way, it made little sense. If it was New York state and he's a small-town sheriff, why would he need to be in Miami for a case? And if it’s New York City … it doesn’t have a sheriff! I couldn't believe how the author went on about how handsome the hero was. Really, nobody is as handsome as was described, so much so that a young intern would be speechless and go all ga-ga over him. Please.
