Sloowwww to start. Gotta grind through the initial four chapters or so, just like a real mmorpg. However once developed, the twin story lines of a brother and sister separately trapped inside the same VR video game that’s now real life, is quite entertaining. I wouldn’t call it gripping or can’t put down. But entertaining enough to enjoy. Character growth really stunts mid story and doesn’t seem to progress, just repeat the same patterns. NPC characters depth of personality and mannerisms is well crafted. Incorporating different player types and skills into the unique struggles is interesting and contemplating end game bosses that don’t have in game restrictions is an exceptional idea.

One of the better, if not best, implementations of MMO LitRPG that I have read through. Not making the player characters way overpowered, and not having the player characters restricted on approaches they can take to problems, significantly improves the story for most stories in this genre.

in my opinion it is worth a credit.
It has an interesting story but to some it might be abit too dragged out.

Good story, though I'd have trimmed some of the narrative of the march. I think I'm mostly annoyed not by the store itself, but by the fact I've actually had to lead idiots who thought it was reasonable to ask that during a life/death emergency, we stop and consult their feelings.

I've read/watched a lot of interpretations of the "have becomes real" scenario, and am intrigued by the premise that it was a fully fledged universe before it was a game. I look forward to learning how that happened, what's up with Sylent Blade, and what's going on with the Once Kind.

I had listened to the sample and was intrigued, however upon listening to the first chapter I returned it. There was going to be so much more expository than I wanted or even needed going into this. And with the comparison to other books of similar likeness this one is on the lower end of that genre.

It's possible most of my dislike for this book is that I came in expecting something closer to litRPG and this was not it.

But in general, you have two separate stories that alternates chapters.

The Roxxy chapters are not that enjoyable. You have a rag tag group of people who spend most of the book walking down a long road, exhausted and depressed intermingled with Roxxy yelling, demanding, threatening, and all around being a pain in the arse.

I did not really like her chapters at all. Almost none off the characters were that likable. The main character alternated between self loathing and bulling people into do doing what she thought they needed for their own good. The fact that she was generally right does not really make her actions tolerable.


The chapters about her brother, Jason were moderately more enjoyable. He also had the self loathing thing going but instead of the whole book being about him walking down a road, he went and did stuff. Can't really elaborate without spoilers but essentially, his story had plot the whole way through where as the Roxxy/Tiny part only had plot at the end.

That aside, most of the book was just exhausting. You've got all these powerful people who spend 80-90% of the book weak and exhausted because the world no longer works the game. Personally, I don't find that super enjoyable. Maybe other people dig the hardships but I didn't really like the logic behind it... or in this case, the lack of explanation.

Not terrible but I won't read a sequel.

This is a good one! Well written, unique story. I have listened to it twice.

While the story is one that i would like to follow, the male narrator needs to adjust his tone for the situation he is reading, he uses the same chipper tone for somebody getting murdered as he does when something wonderful happens. his lackluster performance steals any sense of dread from the book. his counterpart preforms wonderfully in comparison, matching her tone with what is being read.

Roxxy's story was boring however, James's made up for it. Probably the only reason I finished the book.

The character of Roxy is very unlikeable as well as just about everybody in her party. The Raid party made pretty much zero cents most of the time. If you've ever played an MMO at endgame contact and are hoping that there may be some basic comparisons you're out of luck. They know the terms and classes but that's about all they got right.

James on the other hand. Was a pretty good story from top to bottom even if it was a hero start. If nothing else I would recommend reading just his chapters.

Scenario: Raiding party suddenly get trapped into a real version of the game they were playing. Death is real but no one believes the raid leader Tina so she resorts to beating up and dominating her party members into following her orders. So she can save them. 5 stars
