Publisher's summary

We are the most innovative species in the universe. We have created amazing things, from the wheel to the internet. But our innovation has also made us dangerous.

The pace of our development is accelerating. Innovations are breeding more innovations in a positive feedback loop that is leading to exponentially increasing rates of change. Our minds cannot grasp the full implications of exponential growth. We think more in terms of linear change, leading us to have a blind spot on the future.

However, fast the pace of change is today, it will be much faster in the years to come. This will bring ever more rapid scientific and technological advances. But it will also create stress on the systems involved—personal, social, and planetary. The greater the pace of change, the greater the stress and the more likely systemic breakdown.

We are heading into a future with technology beyond our dreams, but in a world that is breaking at the seams. There is no blame for this. Spiraling rates of development, with all their consequences, positive and negative, are the inevitable fate of any intelligent, technologically empowered species.

So how do we live with such spiraling rates of development? How do we prepare for a future that is becoming more and more unpredictable? What does it mean for humanity and our place in the cosmos?

Forgiving Humanity is a thought-provoking and challenging book. It is a must-listen for anyone who is concerned about the future of humanity.

Everyone should read this

Another understated must read by Peter Russell. A peaceful warrior for meditation in challenging times, he is articulate and thoughtful. Though his voice is calm, he has created a reasoned map of human behavior and a pretty good guess at our future as it unfolds exponentially.

Succinct, fascinating, important

I’ve listen to this book 3 times just to take it all in. There are so many interesting facts and information that explains how humanity got to where we are today and how exponential change has and will affect us. Peter lays his case out in a very easy to understand way. His thoughtful explanation of our current and future situation is refreshing and alarming at the same time. Everybody should read this!

Compassionate handbook for exponential change

I love Peter Russell's work combining his background of deep science with his passionate interests in the inner realms explored through the studies of meditation and consciousness. I highly recommend this book for an eye-opening perspective change coupled with compassion and deep peace that could benefit all of humanity in these trying times. Peter did a great job narrating as well. I also highly recommend that this book be followed up by listening to or reading Peter's earlier book, Letting Go of Nothing, for even more practical and accessible methods of working with this exponential rate of change that we find ourselves in today.

Did the author’s Mom write all the glowing reviews?

I don’t know where all the 4 & 5 star reviews came from, but I didn’t hear anything particularly insightful, moving, or inspiring in this audiobook. I listened to it 3 times just to make sure I didn’t miss anything, but there was nothing. Maybe his other books are better, but this one is disappointing.
