Eight-year-old Mary and ten-year-old Alexander were orphans, alone and afraid, but together, they formed a bond that would last for a lifetime. Her dream was to become a fairy, and Alexander's dream was Mary's.

The growing love story.
This book was so sweet and well written. It gives an adequate description of the city life at the time and about 2 children meeting each other and growing up together and saving one another.
