About this listen
Dory and Dorina Basarab were once one person, albeit an unusual one. They were a dhampir—the hated cross between a human and a vampire that is reviled and feared in both circles. But the human and vampire parts of their nature were recently torn apart by a fey weapon, and now, for the first time in five centuries, they are two separate people.
And one of them is being hunted.
Dory and her husband, the vampire senator Louis-Cesare, brave the strange and often deadly world of Faerie looking for her other half. But even finding her proves difficult, and despite their skill and abilities, they struggle to stay alive. And then struggle again with the secrets about their family that their search uncovers—secrets that may give them a fighting chance in the war they are waging against ancient gods or may end up destroying two worlds.
Contains mature themes.

Mary Frances Talbot—Frankie—is a necromancer, probably. Hard to say since she never met her parents. She can see the dead, talk to the dead, and a few other things that aren't strictly legal. It's fine. No worries. As long as she doesn't get caught. The whole not getting caught thing was going well until Samuel Harrow blew back into town wearing a Savannah Police Department uniform. Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I'm Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We've been having some problems lately. Okay, I'm the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal.

I might be a seer with a photographic memory, but I don’t see the trouble headed my way until it’s too late. Suddenly, I’m surrounded by enemies and fighting for my life.

Best Dorina Basarab book in Series
Okay, I'll agree with many other reviewers, this was the best Dory book for a number of reasons. I'm starting to thoroughly enjoy the multi-POV narrative of the recent books but this one was better then the last book because it was the actual main characters Dory and Dorina.
I hope the next book isn't the final in this series because I'm loving the opportunity to get to know Dorina's personality apart from Dory's. I also commend Karen for her ability to take side characters and make the audience just as invested in their HEA'S as the main ones.
I'm really sad the next book isn't already in my hands or that Cassie's book isn't out so I atleast get to remain in this world a bit longer. I will be impatiently waiting for any new book in this world and hoping we get one before next year!! Great job, this is a must read for anyone caught up in the Cassie Palmer and friends world because almost everyone appears in this book!

Karen Chance just pulls you in!
Dorina has been kidnapped by the fae and given a body at the beginning of the novel we find her with Dori’s vampire second and the vampire master spy master Kit Marlowe as prisoners of the dark fae. Doriy, Clare and Dory’s husband Louis- Cesare have traveled to Clare’s father’s fae court to get help finding Dorina. There are multiple groups fighting for domination and Dorina and Dory must fight to stop the coming war. Dorina learn in the world of Faerie ,with her own body, she has increased talents. Lots of drains, battles and a new romance. A must read. The narrator enhances the tension in the story

I have to say for me this book was the most hair raising, awesome one out of the series. I hope the next one doesn’t take as long to come out because I’m at the edge of my seat ready.
