Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

Helped Me Sleep Without Stress
I started listening to this in bed with my headphones on after struggling with sleep for weeks. The voice was calm and steady which helped me relax right away. The tips were simple and made sense without being overwhelming. I liked how it focused on small changes instead of big routines. I even started keeping my phone out of the bedroom like it suggested and noticed I fall asleep faster now. It felt like a quiet chat with someone who gets it and wants to help without pressure.

A Perfect Guide to Better Sleep
The explanations of why we need sleep, the emotional, physical, and mental repair that happens during sleep, the three stages of sleep, and the dangers of not getting enough sleep were all excellent. This fascinating information lays the groundwork for the rest of the book, which describes different causes and potential cures.
Resorting to professionals as a last resort was especially impactful for me, as I strive to avoid pharmaceutical products. I'm open to therapy, and if you are not able to sleep due to stress or anxiety, hopefully, a good therapist can help. However, knowing the cause could also motivate you to resolve the issues that cause such stress.
The impact of technology's blue light, natural light, and the concept of "light management" as a solution was also interesting. The answer to your sleep problems could be as simple as turning the lights off earlier and staying off your phone in the evening.
Diet, exercise, mindfulness- all the usual suspects come into play here as well. I especially love the idea of crafting a sleep sanctuary. A bedroom was described as a "theater" where "the nightly drama of rest unfolds." Elements such as the texture of your sheets, the room temperature, lighting, ambiance, and the amount of sound you are exposed to in bed all combine to create this "theater" and can affect your ability to sleep and the quality of your sleep.
Even our dreams and nightmares can offer clues as to what we can change in our lives to help us sleep. Keeping a dream journal could be helpful, or just a sleep journal to document the nature of your sleep.
This is a great book for anyone struggling with any level of insomnia. The author researched the topic initially to assist his wife and daughter, which is a touching gesture. He discusses how these issues affect men, women, and teens differently.
