Weil die Bukowski-Geschwister im Hallenbad ein Kleinkind vorm Ertrinken gerettet haben, sind sie ein paar Tage lang berühmt. Doch toller als der Ruhm ist die Karte fürs Freibad, die sie für ihre Heldentat bekommen: Freier Eintritt in einen langen Sommer, der für alle ein besonderer wird!
Alf ist zehn, seine Gedanken kreisen um den Schulwechsel nach den Ferien, die schöne Tochter des Bademeisters und sein selbstgestecktes Ziel: der Sprung vom Zehnmeterturm. Seine 8-jährige Schwester Katinka, rotzig und unerschrocken, schwärmt für Paris, lernt auf der Wiese Französisch und trainiert für 20 Bahnen Kraul am Stück. Robbie, der Jüngste und Augenstern der Familie, ist anders als andere Kinder, er redet kaum und träumt viel. Er soll endlich richtig schwimmen lernen, finden Alf und Katinka.
