About this listen

We live in difficult times. Life sometimes seems like a roiling and turbulent river threatening to drown us. Why, in the face of that, shouldn't we cling for safety to the certainty of the shore - to our comfortably familiar patterns and habits? Because, Pema Chödrön teaches, that kind of fear-based clinging leads only to even greater suffering.

In this recorded retreat, based on the program Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change held at Omega Institute, Pema Chödrön and her teaching assistant, Meg Wheatley, provide a wealth of wisdom for learning to step right into the river: to be completely, fearlessly present even in the hardest times, the most difficult situations. It's the secret of being fully alive. The teachings and practices they present includes:

  • A teaching based on a Native American prophecy for cultivating the ability to take nothing personally
  • A guided meditation for developing patience in the midst of irritation
  • Tips for accessing your innate strength and confidence - simply by altering your posture

Pema's teachings are transformative

Pema's teachings are transformative, and her unique delivery style is captivating. She talks from the heart, and you can feel she has experienced all the challenges that we as human beings go through. This audio is simply wonderful. I did not want it to end.

One of the BEST

.... I have read or listened to at least a dozen Pema CD's and books and there is something about this one that just hit the spot for me. Nuanced insights. I love this woman and the Buddhist teachings. Pema has the ability to touch me in ways no others can.

I Love Pema

I've been listening to Pema since 2005. This one is my new favorite. It came out years ago but feels so timely, like she could have given this retreat yesterday. Extremely helpful for these pandemic days. Also lots of live audience laughter...the best.

For a lifetime…always a new teaching

I started reading Pema when my husband left me and I read When Things Fall Apart in 1990. I have listened to most of her teachings on Audible. She teaches us to stay and I doing so we grow and find moments of peace.

Brief

This is rather brief and light on content, which is not surprising as it is a recording of talks given at a retreat. I would recommend her full books instead of this -- her voice is calming and warm, the content seems too light for me.
