Publisher's summary

In this timely, counterintuitive and highly practical guide to the age of A.I. and automation, a New York Times technology columnist argues that the key to success is making yourself more human, not less.

The machines are here. After decades of sci-fi doomsaying and marketing hype, advanced A.I. and automation technologies have leapt out of research labs and Silicon Valley engineering departments and into the centre of our lives. The world's biggest corporations are racing to automate jobs and some experts predict that A.I could put millions of people out of work. But all is not lost. With a little effort, we can become futureproof.

In Futureproof: 9 Rules for Machine-Age Humans, New York Times technology columnist Kevin Roose lays out an optimistic vision of how people can thrive in the machine age by rethinking their relationship with technology and making themselves irreplaceably human.

Overall interesting but...

The VO for this audiobook sounds very machine like. I heard Kevin Roose on an episode of Pivot. He’s got such a great voice. Wonder why he didn’t read the book himself.
Otherwise a good listen.

A Must-Read for Anyone Interested in AI – Whether Enthusiast or Skeptic

FutureProof by Kevin Roose is an absolute gem for anyone navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of AI. As someone deeply enthusiastic about AI yet skeptical of how it's being developed—often with profit as the priority—I found this book to be both enlightening and necessary. Roose masterfully distills complex ideas into nine actionable rules that resonate with readers from all backgrounds, technical or non-technical alike.

The book's strength lies in its accessibility and relevance. He uses historical examples and thoughtful generalizations to demystify AI, making it approachable without downplaying its potential risks. His writing is relatable and easy to follow, making the content both engaging and powerful.

I was so impressed by the insights that I purchased a hard copy to annotate and revisit. This book isn't just a one-time read—it's a guide I'll return to as AI continues to shape our world. I highly recommend FutureProof to anyone looking to understand AI's impact and how we can influence its trajectory to ensure it's beneficial for all. I'm eagerly anticipating Kevin’s next work!
