Ghost Stories

I am struggling to decide how to review this book. On one hand, there was good info, interesting stories, and some wild tales in this collection. On the other hand, I don't believe in the existence of ghosts (I know, a horror buff that doesn't believe in spooks) so I have a difficult time with a book that takes it all as gospel. I have read other books that covered these paranormal occurrences (in most cases, these exact tales) and the difference was that they didn't come across as attempting to prove the reality of the paranormal, they have left it up to the reader for the most part. This book seemed more on the side of proving the existence of spooks and hauntings.
Taking all of this into account, I will give it 3 stars. The narration didn't jive with me and that may have played into it.

This audiobook was given to me at my request for my free and unbiased review.

Ghost Stories Through The Ages

I was familiar with several of the stories in these books, but there were a few that I had not heard before. Interesting read for sure.

Good

I preferred the first reader over the second. It was nice listening to a set of ghost stories all compiled together. I like hearing about ghosts and demons. I had heard the majority of these, but did learn a couple more by listening. Nice little compilation.

So Much Potential, But...

I really, REALLY wanted to like this book. Unlike many reviewers here, I did not receive this book for free. I actually spent one of my credits on it, because I absolutely love anything on the supernatural, true crime, etc.

The stories are interesting. There’s only one huge problem.

The narration is ABYSMAL.

The voice of the first narrator has got to be computerized. It sounds like one of those YouTube videos that uses a robotic voice instead of the content creator using their own. When I listened to the sample, it didn’t bother me that much.

After hours, however, it’s absolutely untenable. Unlistenable.

The robotic voice, the strange pronounciations ( saying “uh-ouija board” instead of “ouija board”, for one), the total lack of any emotion, the over-enunciation, etc., is just too much to handle.

I’m going to return this one and get my credit back. I’ve made it a few chapters in and can no longer handle the robotic reading.

The voice is so monotonous

The stories are standard. And it won’t be bad but the voice was so sing song

Not too bad...

I enjoyed both books in this collection and actually found some of the stories to be spooky. Some are just interesting and a small handful are boring, but overall I thought they were good. Both narrators did a nice job, although I can see how they may not be everyone's cup of tea. The second narrator had a nice tone to his voice which is appropriate for this type of book, however, he took a lot of short, quick breaths in before speaking which got a little annoying. And, he read a lot of stories about Ouija boards but for some strange reason, he pronounces it "an ah-Ouija board." Maybe it's just me but this was like nails on a chalkboard for me and I found it totally distracting. Otherwise, I enjoyed most of the stories and will definitely listen to it again!

Dual Narrators, 1st Awful, 2nd Great

This was a two book compilation of ghost stories and paranormal encounters. This is basically an overview type of book. Many of the stories, I have heard of before with several that were new. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audio book. Narration is different for the two books. The first narrator is awful, skipping paragraphs and sections of dialog, the second is much better. A voice more suited to the material.

Great Audiobook

Mrs. Tidy definitely did her homework before writing this book 9thought it comes across as so much more than just a simple book). I indeed enjoyed her approach to the exploration of these stories, tales, cases, etc. While most of the information of these tales can be found easily online. Her retelling was imaginative and thought-provoking. The only issues I had with this audiobook was the narration of Mr. Hansen. To me, his performance was flat and too youthful in tone. I would have used someone with a more seasoned voice.
