Wonderful narration. Mediocre stories.

I would pay to have Stephan Fry read me a telephone book. This collection is okay, and his storytelling style really enjoyable.

Aside from that, though, I felt his choice of stories to include was less than great, and the background sound effects were occasionally poorly done and distracted from the narration.

Ookity Spookity

It's ookity, it's Spookity. what else is there to say? Stephen Fry makes an excellent voice actor, I am not surprised as he's never disappointed me before. Each story is unique and memorable in its own right so I implore you to select this title.

As Fantastic and Fantastical as Expected

I expected something fantastic from Stephen Fry, and he delivered. This is a wonderful collection of frightening and fantastical short stories, and the narration is simply superb.

Stephen Fry never lets down

I enjoyed this title very much. Although probably not my favorite genre, only to fall into the stories being told in such a way that makes you feel you’re actually there is worth the listen. The Dolby Atmos audio is well put to the service of the production and heightens the effect.

Classic horror stories from many classical authors as Brahm Stoker, Washington Irving, and Edgar Allan Poe. This book comes to show that culture and literary quality are not against having fun. That being said, those listeners looking for novelty may look for another title; this one is to enjoy Mr Fry enjoying with the classics.

Narration.

Some stories are familiar. Some others from famous authors are new to me and enjoyed immensely.

This has been added to my yearly reads/listens.

I have mixed feelings regarding writing reviews — as I think they detract greatly from a readers willingness to take a chance on a new story. Opinions always differ, so why rely on someone else’s versus just taking a chance and making my own?

There was very little chance needed here. I saw Ghost Stories and Stephen Fry. That was all that was needed and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Highly enjoyable in every way…and I must confess, some of these spooked me. And I do not spook easily. It wasn’t just the stories themselves, but how they were told.

If there is another of these in future, a part two if you will, I will immediately buy. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Oh and the sound effects? A very nice touch.

Wish there were more stories

I’d listen to Fry read the phone book. Some good stories here, but I wish there were more. Fun sound effects.

Great Halloween Listen

Listen with good headphones, or the volume way up in your car! The Dolby Atmos is solid and one of the door creeks literally made me jump-scare in the middle of my garage in broad daylight. I will definitely be coming back to this collection every fall.
