About this listen

The Battle Lines Are Drawn.

The Coalition is reeling. New Vega and its other worlds have fallen beneath the boot of the newly allied Savage marines, and the death count continues to rise at a staggering rate. One thing is clear: The war to come will be a fight for the very survival of the species. For both sides in this conflict, now is the time to become what fate, and victory, demand.

The Savages - post-human monsters who believe themselves to be gods - are intent on remaking civilization in their own violent and pathological image. Yet their alliance is tenuous. Among the many tribes of the Uplifted, as they call themselves, the struggle for supremacy rages on. All know that in the end there can be only one tribe. One leader. One truth.

Meanwhile humanity’s last, desperate hope is the formation of a new kind of fighting force: The Legion. Those select few who are hardy enough - or foolish enough - to undertake the relentless, grueling, and merciless candidate training will have the chance to be transformed into mythical heroes...or die trying. They will be pushed beyond their physical and mental limits as they seek to survive an unforgiving planet, lost and derelict ghost spaceships, and, worst of all, the cold, unflinching brutality of Tyrus Rechs. At the end of this crucible, only the one percent of the one percent will earn the right to be called...

...Legionnaires.

Performed by Stephen Lang (Tombstone, Avatar), Galaxy’s Edge: Gods & Legionnaires brings you into the mind of the Savage marines and shows you the heart required to enter the Legion in the second epic installment of Galaxy’s Edge: Savage Wars.

Expands the lore of the GE universe

Another great prequel to the main GE series. Shows the beginning of the Savage Wars from the savage’s point of view and the very first legionnaires

Excellent

If this was the first book I picked up in the GE series I would have stopped listening before chapter 4. But knowing how you guys operate, I kept going and was not disappointed. Great insight to the Savage mindset. I can see how humans will try to be Gods. In the second half I wanted to hate Tyrus Rechs. As having to "embrace the suck" a few times in my military career, I could see him giving the candidates a point to focus their hate and come together as a unit. For some of us, GE is like a trip down memory lane. But I have to say, after all the excellence the book had to offer, it was the last 2 words that blew me away!

AMAZING

The book starts off really confusing as it truly should but it all starts to make sense as it progresses and that’s when you really start to understand the savages and their motives as well as their true potential to kill when crometheus really lays down some ktf and then begins the journey into the formation of the legion, Casper, rechs and a very big surprise. Just listen to it, it’s absolutely amazing and you won’t regret it after the first few chapters of confusion.

The universe is getting bigger!
After reading the other Galaxy’s Edge books, this is a must read! Great book!

If you like good scifi like «Old Mans War», this is for you

I’m not sure (Bad Thought! Bad Thought!)

If you’re familiar with the GE universe and writing style, the “Gods” portion of this entry is going to likely going to throw you like it did me.

That said, I’m glad that it did, as this is our first real deep dive into the life of the Savages. They have always been referenced as some version of crazy - and I’m glad the art reflects that as we follow Cro around.

What do they value? Why are they so crazy? Is there any way to stop them? All thoughts that passed through my head as Stephen Lang takes us through the mind maze that is the Savage “life”. Stephen leans into the madness so well that I found myself wanting more of the Savage story lines.

“Legionnaires” will strike home as more classical in the GE writing style, and is great in its own right as Tyrus and co. build the foundation for the Legion.

A different, but valuable and great setup piece for The Hundred!

Difficult listening

This book is well detailed and excellently preformed; however, the book is very difficult to listen to. The alien view point sounds like ramblings from a schizophrenic murderous mind. I do like to fall asleep listening to these books, while setting bookmarks for my last waking listening point. Although, I did wake up aggravated, thinking whomever was talking needed to shut up. That has never happened. I take it is do to the aggravating length and story line. I am waiting to get to the Legionary part.

I would also say this story caused weird dreams of ship battles and traveling. I would not recommend sleeping to this story.

Great story spoiled by BAD narrator

Lifeless narration. Not even monotone.
It’s like he does the exact opposite of what the situation demands.
Battle scenes need to be narrated at a higher feverish pitch. He narrates it like a drowning sleepy story.
The calm scenes, he narrates it with a life.
It’s like he wants to sabotage the book.

lots of rambling

During the gods part especially during like the burger scene was like sitting through an old man talking in circles of the good old days.

The action parts are great but I feel like I am sitting there waiting for the waiting while I'm sitting through the ramblings.

lots of relatable material though for the rambling parts though.
