Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Once upon a time, there were three hungry dinosaurs: Papa Dinosaur, Mama Dinosaur...and a dinosaur who happened to be visiting from Norway. One day - for no particular reason - they decided to tidy up their house, make the beds, and prepare pudding of varying temperatures. And then - for no particular reason - they decided to go...someplace else. They were definitely not setting a trap for some succulent, unsupervised little girl.

Story
When Alexander wakes up with gum in his hair, he thinks that maybe it’s going to be a bad day. When he trips on the skateboard by his bed and drops his sweater in the sink, he knows it’s going to be even worse than he thought. His brothers find fabulous prizes in their cereal boxes; he finds cereal. His best friends get fancy desserts in their lunch boxes; Mom forgets dessert. From being scrunched in the car on the way to school all the way to lima beans for supper and kissing on TV (yuck!), the day just keeps getting worse. It’s enough to make him want to move to Australia.

A couple of issues for young children
For the most part, it’s well done. However, at one point baby bear exaggerates and says “I’m dying,” which is not a phrase I’m sure I want my four year old to hear and I’m not sure she’ll get the exaggeration since young children are very literal. The story also calls Goldilocks “naughty” and I don’t think it’s appropriate to say that about children. Behaviors can be bad, but placing negative qualitative labels on the person, especially a child, is not good practice. I may return it for those two reasons.

Preview before sharing with young ears
I downloaded this story to share with my 2 year old. I was severely disappointed with the story line, as well as the fact that this book's preview doesn't mention these changes to the traditional text. The witty remarks about Goldilocks and her character may be funny to adult ears. This is not the version I would like my little parrot to be repeating from memory.
