About this listen
Great-Grandma Mittie’s Letters: The Space Adventures of Dara, Vesko, and Borko is a fun book series for all ages. Younger listeners will learn many interesting facts about the cosmos, whereas the older listeners will have fun refreshing their knowledge about nature and its laws. The main characters of the book, three young children, travel into space on an imaginary starship. They learn important information very fast since they are actively playing and experiencing everything. Involved in experiments and adventures, the children ask their own questions, come to their own conclusions, and truly enjoy themselves. This science fiction is written with children’s desires, goals, and great imagination in mind but can capture everybody’s attention.
Part 3 - Of the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon
Summary
Dear Travelers: In Part 3 of Great-Grandma Mittie's Letters, Mittie takes her three great-grandchildren and the listeners to explore the family of our sun, also called the solar family or the solar system. These imaginary adventures begin by visiting our sun, the center of the solar family that attracts all of its children, the eight planets that stay together. After that, Mittie invites everybody to discuss many cool things about one of the sun's children, the third planet from the sun, our planet Earth. Mittie's games and surprises continue even back on the moon, the only natural satellite of the Earth that is officially recognized.

Story
Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day?

The millions of people around the world who loved What If? still have questions, and those questions are getting stranger. Thank goodness xkcd creator Randall Munroe is here to help. Planning to ride a fire pole from the Moon back to Earth? The hardest part is sticking the landing. Hoping to cool the atmosphere by opening everyone’s freezer door at the same time? Maybe it’s time for a brief introduction to thermodynamics. Want to know what would happen if you rode a helicopter blade, made a lava lamp out of lava, or jumped on an erupting geyser? Okay, if you insist.

Mindfulness and meditation have helped millions to get to sleep with much more ease than ever before. Something that many parents haven’t considered is how these things can help their little ones to wind down, get ready for sleep, kick nightmares from their headspace, and settle in for a long night’s rest. Teaching meditation to your children might seem like an impossible feat, but many have found that their children are remarkably receptive to it when it’s presented like a story.

These are just a few of the many interesting facts that you will discover about space in this audiobook. Story
Christophe Galfard's mission in life is to spread modern scientific ideas to the general public in entertaining ways. Using his considerable skills as a brilliant theoretical physicist and successful young-adult author, The Universe in Your Hand employs the immediacy of simple, direct language to show us, not explain to us, the theories that underpin everything we know about our universe.

Story
A deeply panoramic tour of the night, from its brightest spots to the darkest skies we have left. A starry night is one of nature's most magical wonders. Yet in our artificially lit world, three-quarters of Americans' eyes never switch to night vision and most of us no longer experience true darkness. In The End of Night, Paul Bogard restores our awareness of the spectacularly primal, wildly dark night sky and how it has influenced the human experience across everything from science to art.

Story
We live at the bottom of an ocean of air - 5,200 million million tons, to be exact. It sounds like a lot, but Earth’s atmosphere is smeared onto its surface in an alarmingly thin layer - 99 percent contained within 18 miles. Yet, within this fragile margin lies a magnificent realm - at once gorgeous, terrifying, capricious, and elusive. With his keen eye for identifying and uniting seemingly unrelated events, Chris Dewdney reveals to us the invisible rivers in the sky that affect how our weather works and the structure of clouds and storms and seasons, the rollercoaster of climate.

The very far future: The galaxy is a drifting wreck of black holes, neutron stars, and chill white dwarfs. The age of star formation is long past. And this mind cradles memories of a long-gone age when a more compact universe was full of light... The 27th century: Proxima Centauri, an undistinguished red dwarf star, is the nearest star to our sun. How would it be to live on such a world?

Story
In the 1940s and '50s, when the newly minted Jet Propulsion Laboratory needed quick-thinking mathematicians to calculate velocities and plot trajectories, they didn't turn to male graduates. Rather, they recruited an elite group of young women who, with only pencil, paper, and mathematical prowess, transformed rocket design, helped bring about the first American satellites, and made the exploration of the solar system possible.
