About this listen

Two thousand years before Cait Reagan was a twinkle in The Morrigan’s eye, Weyna played handmaid to that very same Goddess in the year leading up to the Second Battle of Maighe Tuireadh, where the Tuatha de Dannan faced the forces of Fomori in a climactic final battle. But when Weyna stuns the assembled Gods and Goddesses by taking down the greatest fighter the Óșeni have ever known using a technique she never learned, she sets in motion a series of events that will ultimately lead to the discovery a long-buried secret two millennia later.

In the present, Cait's sister, Aoife Reagan, a former member of Ireland’s Tacaíochta Faoi Arm, the Garda version of SWAT, is drawn to Boston for the funeral, only to find that it’s not going to happen. Cait died, but it didn’t take as Cait returned to the ranks of the undead somewhat posthumously. Unfortunately, Cait's soul has decided to go on walkabout, and she remains in a strange sort of stasis.

In the meantime, Liz believes something larger is at work, and she has concocted an insane plan to draw out Cait’s killer and lead them one step closer to whoever is behind him. Aoife will impersonate Cait, leading the would-be assassin to believe they’ve failed. Now she just has to convince Aoife to be the bait, impersonate a nine-year veteran of the police department, and do it while chasing down a vicious creature of myth that is running loose in Boston and could destroy half the city.

I can’t wait for the next book.

This is everything I’ve been looking for: a sapphic fantasy. Each book gets better and better. Abby is an incredible narrator.

Underestimated

I had all but given up on this series. The story is coming together, and I’ve gone back to the beginning. I have high hopes for the next in the series. This narrator is always good.

This has been interesting and I can't wait for the next one.

First I would have commented on the first two books by audible won't let me. The settings and the story is really interesting. The takes on more common fantasy creatures, magic, and the soul has captivated my interest greatly. The stories are dark and filled with twists and turns which brought me up short at some points but other lwise found enjoyable. There are some somethings I didn't care for and are part of the things that brought me up short. Kate doesn't even try to hold onto her humanity. I understand that she is not all together human to begin with but she was raised as a human. I also like to point out and this is not a bad thing just odd. that somehow almost every member of her team and new friends ends up being gay. There is like one token straight guy who's on her team and a friend. Again just saying it is a bit odd. There is one other thing but I will wait for the next audio book to see if it becomes more pronounced or if it just an understandable character trait.

Abby Craden at her best

I didn’t think my respect for Abby Craden could grow, but after binging this series I don’t know where her limits lie. This series is great, but Abby makes it superb!

Anxiously awaiting book 4.

Favorite Narrator Ever

Amazing series. Character development is delicious and the narrator, or may I say, the full embodiment of a barrage of characters, is what makes this series even more delectable. She can read to me all day long.

Great Vampire/Fantasy Story!

I’m a big fan of this series and this installment is as good or better than the earlier ones. New characters and a lot of world building, but it’s never slow or ponderous. The writing is always entertaining and interesting
