About this listen

Lacey Black’s Grip is a second-chance, surprise baby, contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Driven World project.

Mack

I live to race. It’s in my blood—the smell of dirt and gasoline, the fast cars, the screaming fans. I was the king of a small track in Missouri with the world at my fingertips. I even had the girl until a call came from the infamous Colton Donavan. I had a choice to make: my dream or the woman I loved. I couldn’t have both.

When an unexpected surprise shows up on my doorstep in the form of a baby, there’s only one woman I trust enough to help me. Lena Stanley, the one I left behind. But being in close proximity to her reminds me of what we used to have and what I still want. Her.

Lena

The day he walked away to chase his dream was the hardest day of my life, but I powered through. I could never ask Mack to choose between me and the opportunity of a lifetime.

That’s why I pushed him toward the latter despite the heartache it caused.

Now, he needs my help. The problem is it’s hard to keep old feelings buried. Despite my best efforts, our connection is too powerful to deny. However, as our short time together draws to a close, I have another difficult choice to make. Only this time, I’m not just walking away from him but his son too.

Feel Good

I liked this audiobook. A feel good second chance romance. Mac becomes a dad overnight to a newborn. He called the one person he trusts the most for help, Lina his ex-girlfriend. She agrees to help for six weeks. Tom Haire and Suzanne T Fortin bring their talents to this book.

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧 Delightfully Heartfelt!

I loved everything about this fabulous second chance romance, from Lacey Black’s wonderful writing style to the amazing characters and storylines she created to the perfectly cast narrators who bring it all to life from the pages to your ears. I am a big fan of K. Bromberg’s Driven series and it is always a treat to return to her “Driven” world in one way or anther and Lacey Black does a spectacular job with capturing the essence of that world she even included a few Colton Donovan cameos. Mack Cruz did not have the best home life, but he found his outlet and a man who would give him the time of day, Jim Stanley, owner of the dirt track and a former crew chief for open-wheel racing. Mack fell in love with racing and his daughter Lena. He dreamed of making it big one day and then the unimaginable happens, he gets a call from Colton Donovan, they were short a racer and he wanted him to fill that seat. Honored and excited he accepts thinking Lena would come with him but she told him she does not want that life and that he must go and follow his dreams breaking both of their hearts. Fast forward three years, despite not keeping in touch Mack asks Lena to come to L.A. because he needed her help. She had no idea what was going on with him, it hurt too much to keep tabs on him so she stopped, but she did not hesitate to go and what she found was very surprising. Mack caring for a baby and in way over his head. She had no intention of staying but he convinced her to help him for six weeks. Lena was a natural with the baby and she was no stranger to the racing world. I loved how everything played out in this beautifully plotted story, it captivated my attention from start to end and left me with a big smile on my face. Lacey Black, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Tom Haire and Suzanne T. Fortin are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that was a perfect fit for their character’s persona, and were believable in every role they played. Haire played Mack’s role with perfection and Fortin did the same for Lena, both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances the amazing story another level. Thank you for this wonderful listen.

Enjoyed this!

Thoroughly enjoyed this second chance, single dad romance. The connection between Lena and Mack is apparent, so had some trouble with them separating years ago. The writing was solid and the main and side characters great.

Listened to the audiobook and the narration made the story come to life.

second chance romance

I love a second chance romance, especially when Mack and Lena are meant to be together. Lacey Black has written an emotional story with heartbreak, emotions, love, drama, and angst. Lena's doubts lead to their heartbreak, not only once but twice. Tissues are needed for this story.
Tom Haire and Suzanne T. Fortin emotional performance is perfection.
i was gifted this story and offered my honest review.

What an awesome second chance romance!

This book was so good. I loved how Mack called his old love to be the only one worth helping taking care of a brand new baby. When Mack walked away to follow his dream in racing that could have been it. Watching the romance go through ups and downs actually had me in tears in one part and being a cheerleader in others. Suzanne and Tom read with so emotion I had to walk away from
My desk to hide my tears and look at my speedometer to slow myself down lol through a few parts. The ending was so good watching who and what each person was willing to sacrifice to be with the other. I would love to hear more about these characters if Lacey Black would consider this. Everyone involved deserves 5 stars for this story!

Love visiting the Driven World!

Being a huge fan of K Bromberg's Driven, I love getting my ears listening to the world that has been created by these fantastic characters! This one features Mack Cruz. A kid who needed an outlet from his bad childhood was mentored by Jim Stanley. As he learns about racing, his dreams of driving professionally are growing, only to be granted by Colton Donovan. Now decisions need to be made! He asks his girlfriend, Jim's daughter Lena to go with him, but she decides to stay behind as Mack realizes his dream. But now three years later, he calls her, needing her to come help him. Lena's heart is big, and goes off to see what he needs. And our story begins. Lacey Black masterfully melds the Driven world into this book, giving us the feel that we are back with Colton & Riley(we do get to see them in this book too!). Lena falls into Mack's world for six weeks, but will it be enough to make her want to stay? Mack holding a baby had me, but would it be enough for Lena? Second chances, unforeseen circumstances, and a love never ended, we are treated to a romance for the ages.

We are treated to the narration of this romance by Tom Haire and Suzanne T Fortin. I love this team together. Their voices compliment each other and they easily find their niche into the story. Mack is an alpha male, knowing what he wants, and easily becomes a teddy bear when it comes to Oliver. Haire understands him, and gives us the perfect interpretation of Mack. Fortin finds the essence of Lena and brings it out. She keeps and even keep, but we feel her conflict. She portrays Lena with passion, mother instincts and love. This is a wonderful pairing and great story telling.

Super Great!

OMG! What a wonderful, exciting and fun story! It was well plotted out and built the emotions right until the end! I didn’t want it to end.
This is the first time I have listened to the narrators, they didn’t disappoint me! They were fantastic with the voices of the characters. I would love to give it more stars.
