Publisher's summary

I never thought I’d be half of a crime-solving duo...working with a famous talking cat.

Country legend Benson Bridges is missing a rare guitar that he’s used to write four decades' worth of hit songs. Duke, his old hound dog, is the only one who witnessed the crime.

That’s where Persephone and I come in.

Now we’re on our way to Nashville to find the guitar. I’m a little - make that a lot - nervous about calling myself a professional crime solver. Included in my list of suspects are an obsessed fan, a hotshot singer looking to blaze his own path, and a disgruntled ex-nanny. But this unlikely crew might turn out to be my secret weapons.

Because Duke doesn’t like newcomers so much. He’s set in his ways, just like his human dad. Persephone and I think the old hound might be protecting the thief.

Losing the guitar could end Benson’s career, but finding it might cost him so much more....

Spy Kitty in the City Series

Guard Dogs and Guitars (Spy Kitty in the City) is a light fun listen with cute banter between the characters. The cover is adorable and the title title is perfect. Solving a cozy mystery with a talking cat is entertaining and not predictable. The animals are fantastic and the world building is descriptive and vividly imaginable. A good listen with a solving crimes storyline.

Jillian Yetter's narration was well performed. She gave each character than own individual voice. She played out the emotions of the characters. Her inflection is sweetly appealing to listen to.

Great Cozy Mystery

This was my first Bailey Booth's book. This is the second book in the Spy Kitty in the City Series, a short Cozy Mystery. It was fun to follow Addie and Persephone in their investigation to found the missing rare guitar. Benson Bridges's dog Duke, is a great addition to the story. I loved the characters, and the mystery! This was my first listen to Jillian Yetter's voice. She did a good job with the narration.

Talking Kitty and Cozy Mystery

A cute cozy mystery. This is not the first of the talking kitty books by Booth but it is the first I've read / listened to and while there were a few times I felt like I was missing some back story they were short lived and I was able to enjoy the characters and the storyline for what it was. A talking cat and her owner who've been thrust into the world of solving crimes and are navigating it along with kitty fame as best they can. This case involves a trip to the country music capital of the world and solving the mystery of a missing guitar for a country music legend. Not everyone is as they seem but in the end the mystery is solved and all's well in the world - for the most part. Great characters and again, wonderful narration - Yetter does a great job in changing tones and accents for this listen and really brings the characters and kitty to life. Booth provides a smooth flowing storyline that ends in the most pleasing of notes!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Guard Dogs and Guitars very good

Addie Dawson is the director of Helping Paws, a no-kill animal shelter in Harmony, New Hampshire, where she finds forever homes for the animals. But after Persephone made her talents known, being a clever talking cat who can find things and foil an art thief, Addie is finding herself more in the spotlight than she likes. Persephone has been a big help matching up the would-be-pet-owners with the perfect animal for them, and the lines at the shelter are getting longer.

But Addie is surprised to get a call from Margaret asking if she can help country music singer Benson Bridges. His rare guitar “Sadie”, that he depends on as he writes music, is missing. The only one who may have witnessed the crime is old Duke, his pet hound dog, who was the only one in the recording studio when the guitar disappeared. But Duke doesn’t like to be bothered, and might even be deliberately protecting the thief. Can Addie and Persephone figure out what happened and who took the guitar?

This was a good mystery with a unique approach having a talking cat. Also Addie has a good rapport with people because of her experiences at the animal shelter. That will be helpful when an uncomfortable bit of information is revealed. Grab your copy and see how Addie and Persephone deal with this latest mystery.

The narrator did such a wonderful job telling this story. she brought the character to life.

Cute

This was a cute story with some fun mystery elements. The cat was really cute and had a great personality. I enjoyed the side characters and getting to see how the mystery unfolded. Curious to see what else will happen with these characters and if more crazy moments will happen.

Cheerful, cute, cozy, and high quality

Addie is an upbeat, compassionate young woman who manages an animal shelter near Boston. She recently became the owner of a cat named Persephone who telepathically speaks to Addie and no other human. This special cat can also communicate with cats and dogs. In the previous book, Persephone helped to solve a stolen art mystery, and she became world-famous. Now Addie and Persephone are hired by a famous country singer to find his stolen guitar.

I was pleasantly surprised at how very charming and well written this cozy mystery is. I started with this second book in the series, and the story explains the important things that happened in the first book. I plan to go back and listen to book #1. While the telepathic cat concept is very fanciful, the rest of the plot makes sense and is a realistic mystery with practical details. Persephone is integral to the sleuthing, but Addie also does a lot of essential information-gathering and detective work. This high-quality cozy mystery is told from Addie’s first person perspective. I quickly grew to love Addie with her determination, intelligence, sense of responsibility, and optimism.

The narrator, Jillian Yetter, did a wonderful job. Her voice sounds like Mila Kunis but smoother: velvety, melodic, and expressive. Jillian Yetter has excellent pacing, humor, and distinctive character voices. I loved all of the distinctive character voices except for that of the cat Persephone, who sounds like a sour old woman with a gravely voice damaged by smoking. The voice is rather jarring at first, but I became accustomed to it, and thankfully the cat does not talk in every chapter. I still loved Jillian Yetter’s performance, and I plan to buy more of her work.
