Publisher's summary

In this vivid and suspenseful addition to her widely acclaimed Sharpe & Donovan series, New York Times bestselling author Carla Neggers takes listeners on a heart-stopping journey from Boston to Ireland to the rocky coast of Maine

Emma Sharpe, granddaughter of world-renowned art detective Wendell Sharpe, is a handpicked member of a small Boston-based FBI team. For the past decade Emma and her grandfather have been trailing an elusive serial art thief. The first heist was in Ireland, where an ancient Celtic cross was stolen. Now the Sharpes receive a replica of the cross after every new theft - reminding them of their continued failure to capture their prey.

When Emma receives a message that leads her to the body of a woman on a small island in Boston Harbor, she finds the victim holding a small, cross-inscribed stone - one she recognizes all too well. Emma's fiancé, FBI deep-cover agent Colin Donovan, is troubled that she's gone off to the island alone, especially given the deadly turn the thief has taken. But as they dig deeper they are certain there is more to this murder than meets the eye.

As the danger escalates, Emma and Colin must also face do-or-die questions about their relationship. While there's no doubt they are in love, can they give their hearts and souls to their work and have anything left for each other? There's one thing Emma and Colin definitely agree on: before they can focus on their future, they must outwit one of the smartest, most ruthless killers they've ever encountered.

Love this series and listened to all books in a m!

I have throughly enjoyed this series, so much so that I've listened from the beginning to current in less than a month! It's the family of characters that really draw you in. You might think to predict what could happen next with any of the characters but you will often be surprised. This review is for the entire series to date and each novel has positive and negative. If you prefer to find a great series, understanding how series flow up and down, this one is very enjoyable. Highly recommend!!

A bad reader can rune a good book...

Would you try another book from Carla Neggers and/or Carla Mercer-Meyer?

Love Carla Neggers but will avoid this reader. The reader has no range of voice and speaks very flat, I found it hard to stay focused on the story because of her voice.

What did you like best about this story?

The continuing story of the great cast of characters.

How could the performance have been better?

To bad the past reader did't do this book also.

Horrible narration

All characters sound like little girl voice telling story. Difficult to discern between. Irritating. Kept shutting audible off and read story instead. Story was good. Narrator ruined story.

Good story! Horrible Audible Narrative!!!!

This continues the Sharpe and Donovan story!!!

Now, as for audible narative being changed from The previous narrator Monda who gets a 5+++ star rating!!!
C. Mercer-Meyer did a horrible narrative job. Each voice sounded like a little irritable girl.
I had a hard time enjoying the story due to the narration.
If you must read this book, don't do the audible version.
It was really, really bad, especially when you followed the series and know how the characters should sound and they all sound like hysterical children.
It definitely detracted from enjoying the story.

Not to be insulting, but to really be honest...

Some narrators do a great job with voices others who take over a book maybe don't take the time to hear how the voices are done, or are not as capable to master the previous narrator's voices. I
Hence, ruining the audible enjoyment for listeners.
Please bring back Monda!!!! She's done a fantastic job!!!
Book was enjoyable, Really like the series!!!

Good Story - Awful Narration

I have listened to a lot of audible books. Some narrators are outstanding and really bring the story alive. Some aren't as outstanding, but are still very good. And sometimes a narrator is just awful. Perhaps it was just the Irish brogues and British accents that were too challenging for Carla Mercer-Meyer. She made every single voice, male and female, Irish, British, and American, sound like a whiny little girl. I love long books; it would have been better had this one been shorter. Not because it is a bad story... it is a good story. Hopefully, for the next installment of Sharpe & Donovan, Carla Neggers brings back Carol Monda as the narrator.
