more problems to come

I really thought I knew who the villain was, but alas he was taken out by the true villain. Greed is an evil bedfellow. I don't blame Perry for his actions, because he's just being proactive and protective. One problem solved and another crops up. Jax questioning Perry's full loyalties is concerning. I trust him. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

Flashbacks

This latest mystery takes place at the Academy where Jax used to study.
I loved it was full of little flashbacks, giving us a peak into her (more careless) past.

I missed Uma and Sabine in the previous novel and was sad we only get to enjoy their company for a very short time in this story.
But luckily there are other wonderful side characters to make up for it.
Keriena is a professor at the Academy now and gets reunited with Jax. She is such a fun character, full of mischief.
And while we only got to know Ciri in the previous book, she is one of my favorites already.
I love her attitude, confidence and insights, she’s a wonderful and valuable addition to Jax’s inner circle.

Narration is wonderful as always, and I enjoy and appreciate that very much!

SPOILER ALERT!
(minor spoiler for this book, major spoiler if you haven’t read any book in this series yet)

I absolutely adored the way Jax and Perry’s romance is build up in the first few books, I was so surprised by how sweet, unexpected and non-cliché it was.
I didn’t like when it became clear that George still had feelings for Jax and visa versa.
I thought the ending of the previous book hinted at things going in a different direction in the future.
That turned out to be not true, and I’m a bit disappointed. Probably extra disappointed because I wrongly assumed things (and I love Perry).
I dislike this ‘love triangle’ aspect and because it’s spread all over the narrative (we follow Jax’s thoughts and she thinks about George and George vs. Perry a lot) I was constantly reminded of it.
This, coupled with Perry doing something underhand, has made me enjoy this book less then others in the series.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

Plot twisting!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
As the ambush at the war council attends to their many wounded and the many who died Jax has to act on staking her claim to her newly inherited kingdoms. Some troubling news comes to light. Is it true or is it all just hearsay. But the biggest surprise is the stance Perry makes by doing a simple act.
So good!!! Can’t wait for the next book!!! I swear this series is becoming a drug for me I can’t read them fast enough.

Loved it!

This was a great listen. An attack on the Realm has left many nations leaderless. The Dutches’s Jax has her hands full with empty thrones that need to be claimed. News has come to light that a throne is already claimed. Now Jax need to get to the bottom of it by traveling to her old Academy. The trouble she steps into may be more than she anticipated.

I definitely need to go back and start at the beginning.
