Publisher's summary

A stolen magic. A rising evil. They are pawns in a game they do not understand.

USA Today best-selling author and 2018 SPFBO semifinalist Meg Cowley returns with a stunning new epic fantasy trilogy set in the same world as her acclaimed Books of Caledan series.

When orphan Harper discovers a legendary Dragonheart, her life changes forever.

Magically flung to the faraway country of Pelenor, where magic, dragons, and elves rule, Harper must find her place - and fast.

Searching for the elven King's missing Dragonheart is his ruthless Spymaster Dimitri, who has his own agenda to revolutionise Pelenor, and free it from the King's greed.

Harper is thrust into a web of intrigue beyond her knowledge, and her newfound companions - a roguish elven thief and his ragtag band of companions - might not be the trustworthy friends she thinks.

When Harper and Dimitri's paths collide, the only thing more dangerous than lies might be the truth, yet either might destroy them. Harper is forced to ally with the hated spymaster - but Dimitri is equally displeased that his fate rests in her unworthy hands.

Harper and Dimitri must work together to ensure both of them survive the King's wrath in a court where betrayal is as easy as breathing. The Dragonheart is key to both their successes - but only one can possess it, and the king will not suffer its loss.

Who will drown in deceit, and who will rise triumphant?

If you enjoy epic fantasies with vivid characters and complex plots, you'll love the Pelenor Chronicles. It's perfect for fans of SJ Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses series and Jeff Wheeler's Kingfountain series.

Simply Amazing

I got this book on a whim and a recommendation. I was floored and could not stop listening.

The narrator guides the story beautifully complete with different voices and effects. It added so much to the story that I didn't know I wanted and needed. Every character is portrayed with such a different voice and emotion added. I was very pleased and was a great addition to the story that some narrators can miss.

This is my first Meg Cowley book. I love the pace and was sad when it ended. I immediately got the sequel. Each of the characters and their backstories were woven through the story intricately and it makes it hard to choose a favorite. No one is necessarily solely the hero or solely the villain. I cannot wait to start the next book.

great fantasy

I really enjoyed the characters and the idea that villains can have redeeming qualities is interesting and keeps you guessing.

Delightful

So I'm going to do a two part review. {There's a bit of a spoiler under the story portion.}

Audiobook:
I thought the narration and voices were awesome. I especially enjoyed the effect that was used to indicate that a character was thinking something rather than speaking aloud. Jack Vorace's voice was pleasant to listen to without being distracting. I was able to fall into the story easily, which is important because I usually listen to audiobooks only for nonfiction or stories that I have already read traditionally because it's so easy to end up focusing on something besides the story and missing out.

Story:
I enjoyed the characters and the way everything was written. I especially enjoyed that Harper didn't suddenly become the most powerful character ever in some weird plot twist. When she first learned that she would eventually be able to do magic, that was a worry of mine. Overall, without more spoilers, I really liked the story. Enough that I'm glad the narrator sent me audible codes for the whole series because I'll be listening to the next one soon!!

Disclaimer: I received Audible review codes from Jack Voraces for this book in exchange for a review.

Brilliant Story and Terrifc Performance!

After listening to some of Books of Caladan series I thought that I can hardly by impressed with the story in the same world and setting. Gosh, was I wrong! Heart of Dragons turned out such a dynamic book with deep and complex characters, non trivial story and overall amazing audiobook to listen. It was one those books that I tried to listen anytime I got a free 5 minutes or more.

As for the narration, Jack continues to deliver the highest quality performance. I love his pacing, the choice of voices and how he make every character sound unique. This is series is a must for anyone who is a fan of epic fantasy and terrific narration!

Great beginning to a series& fantastic narration

**Disclaimer: I received review codes for the series from the narrator**

With my disclaimer out of the way I can honestly say I enjoyed the story & Jack Voraces does an absolutely awesome job with the narration. The premise of the story is a simple one. There’s injustice in the world & a prophecy that someone will come back to right these injustices, but the story turns the well worn trope on its head a bit that I won’t go into for fear of spoilers. I appreciate new spins on tropes a lot & characters that are more three dimensional which I thankfully found in this book. Jack Voraces has become one of my favorite narrators even though I’ve only discovered him a few months ago & does great with varying the voices so it’s easy to track which character is speaking without being told. I would definitely put him with the greats that shine in the fantasy audiobook genre.

stolen heart and a prophecy cause chaos

The characters are interesting and well developed. They make mistakes. They learn a lesson. They keep going and keep trying. Each has their own idea of what is right. There is a wide diversity in the main characters and throughout the book. There are dwarves, humans, elves, goblins, and dragons to name a few. The plot flows with a lot of twists and turns. This book has excellent world-building and lots of action. I feel like I am part of the story and living it as it happens. I look forward to the next book in the series.

The narrator does a great job in the reading and in making each character sound different. His voice has inflection and keeps you energized and excited about what will happen next.

Good store, audio was a bit echoey

I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward too starting on the second book. my only complaint is that audio sounds a bit echoey. I got used to it as the story went on.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

agreed new series to get immersed in

I picked this book up about 2 months ago and sporadically switches between reading and listening to it. I had a hard time getting used to the narrator's voice in the beginning while picking out all the different characters but about a third of the way through the story I caught on and ripped through the rest of it in a couple days.

looking forward to future books!
