I love the gangster storyline. I got lost with all of the players a couple of times but the author did a good job of bringing everything together at the end! The narrator did a great job keeping the pace exciting.

Heartwarming, Entertaining, Suspenseful

It was really interesting to be introduced to Cain’s mother, siblings in this book, FBI sans Shelby, and the rest of the other families! I want to move on to the other books to continue the story and listen to them again, however I cringe with the 1st 2 books because of the narrator! Paige McKinney is amazing in this series. And now she did this book so it’s hard to go back to the other narrator! I wish Ms McKinney can just redo the other 2! I’ve listened to this series starting with her narration 10 times now!

I listened to book one in the series before this. This story shows how the following story is so tragic. But a story of love and courtship is a true testament to how every woman has a dream romance.

All time favorite series, read every book. Struggle through this narrator, she doesn't do the series justice. But will Ali Vali knows how to weave great stories

When I see an Ali Vali book I know it will be an excellent book, this one was not one of them. The story was not grabbing me as other of her books, the love story was good, but there was no suspense.
Paige McKinney’s narration saved the book.

This was the in depth start of the love affair between Derby Cain Casey and the love of her life Emma Verde. Ali Vali is a magician when it comes to writing love relationships and this indeed one of my favorites. Very well written and developed story. The main characters had chemistry out of this world! The narrator was excellent!

Very Good Story!

First, the narrator starts off very nasally and high pitched. Then the premise of the whole idea is far fetched. And finally, the cutesy names, like lass, don't fit the character at all. I really would like my credit back. Especially considering I forced myself to listen to the whole book hoping it would get better since it is the first in a long series. But alas, it did NOT!

The crime part of the book was great and well written with twists and turns. However, the romance part felt rushed (love at first sight) and over the top cheesy. Good listen but definitely not the best.

DNF. I had to listen in segments with other books in between. I do not what bothered me more, the lack luster story or the below average narration. Was hoping for better.
