Love Always Is Strength

This one was a passionate story of a young lady and a rogue. Charles found her fleeing after her mother had sent her to be a prostitute. He took her to his mother and sister. The narrator did a great job.

Short and Sweet!

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Loved this story. Julia is sent to London by her mother to work in a brothel, not knowing that is where her mother is sending her. Charles is a duke that helps Julia with her escape from the brothel. Love the chemistry between Charles and Julia. Narrator Mathias Holt does a great job with the characters and story.

Her perfect Rogue

The story at first reminds me of the song Fancy, of course things change a bit after the beginning. Julia has no idea where her mother is sending her to, she only says to a better life. Sadly her mother has not told her the whole truth! Not sure where she is going Julia makes a run for it and lands in the Dukes arms. He helps her and gives her the fresh start she is looking for. But realizes there is more between them. Great short historical romance. It really draws you in from the beginning.

These are just to flimsy for me

I keep listening to Amanda Mariel books because they are included in escape and they are fast reads so they don’t keep me up late at night but they are so underdeveloped that they are annoying. It is a shame too because her premises are great but then she gives us the outline instead of a real book and I find it super super frustrating. I’m always surprised by what great reviews her books get. They are so paper thin that you see through them completely. Virtually no substance. I beg her to write full books because her ideas are terrific. I like her characters a lot too but as I said it is like a book outline instead of a book.

From misfortune to HEA

I really enjoyed this story of a young woman of ignoble birth who determines to resist fortune, protect her virtue, and make a better life for herself. Turned out and (unbeknownst to her) sent to a brothel, Julia runs, and is rescued by Charles, Duke of Selkirk. I loved the way Julia was taken into the Duke of Selkirk's household and treated like family by his sister and the dowager duchess. The story is a bit "My Fair Lady" and also heavily resembles (borrows from) a well-known country music song. It's sweet and spicy. Julia falls heavily for her rescuer, but she has no illusions as to her status in society, and she is willing to be his mistress. But, Charles is a gentleman, and though he wants Julia, he refuses to ruin her. Will he be able to resist her, or will love force him to buck society's rules. This story deals (briefly) with the seedy and unpleasant fate of women of low birth with no male family members to provide for them, no money, and no means of support.

The narration was very good, although I did speed the sound up a little to 1.1x on audible.

Dreamy, Sensual & Romantic.

Oh if a girl could stumble into the arms of any man, she would wish to stumble into the arms of this Duke. There is nothing more attractive to this girl, then genuine kindness in a man. The author has penned a beautiful love story that captivated me immediately and held my heart until the very last word. This story is a must have. The narrator performed it beautifully. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Improbable Regency Melodrama

This is a super quick read or listen, and as such, there is little-to-no room for character or plot development. I was listening to this audiobook as I was sorting through things at my parents’ house, and the very first chapter made me stop short. Seriously, an ill Regency mother is sending her daughter to a brothel in the big city to make her own way in the world? So improbable that I had a hard time getting past it. I liked the hero, a protector type who is determined to help this young woman whom he discovers as she's fleeing from the said brothel. This book actually had potential if it were developed more. I absolutely loved the dowager duchess and how she trained both her daughter and the heroine (whom the hero hired as his sister's companion to keep her off the streets). In a longer book, this could have been played up as if she were not just grooming her daughter's companion but perhaps her future daughter-in-law. Everything moves too quickly with the romance and gets steamy very quickly, again, in a way not quite believable for a Regency romance. If you don't mind a Regency that may shock some of your historical romance sensibilities, you could view this as amusing because of all the rules it breaks! Certainly not my favorite by this author, but if you take it as the lark it is probably intended to be, you may enjoy it.

Her Perfect Rogue

This is a short story, but enjoyed it very much. It touched on a few issues that you normally don’t read in the Victorian Romance. I thought the subject was refreshing. I would to listen up this in book length. I would love to hear the subject matter delved into a bit more and get to know the characters a bit more. I also enjoyed the characters. Narrator Mathias Holt does a great job on character voices, but his narration voice needs a little work. Overall, I liked the book very much. It was a fun short story. I will definitely listen to author Amanda Mariel again.
I was given a copy of the book in exchange for review. But, my review is very honest!

Julia

Sweet, mostly clean, simple. The story starts out well, while the middle and ending is rushed. However, this is a novella and there is limited time so that is understandable.
I feel the story and characters need flushed out more, I feel I did not really know the characters.
Goes very quickly from I like her to wedded. The was a lot of build up of the ton season, but then the season is omitted from the rest of the story. If flushed out, this could be a good full length novel. Narration was good. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Quick and Charming

A little bit Cinderella, a little bit Fancy.  Julia’s mother is ill and broke and sends her away to a better life which turns out to be a brothel.  Julia doesn’t want this life and runs, straight into the arms of Charles, Duke of Selkirk.  Charles rescues her, and against the dictates of Society, they fall in love but don’t believe anything can come of it.  It is Christmas Tide, a perfect season for a miracle.  This is quick read and a charming story.  Mathias Holt did a great job narrating the story.
