About this listen

Mrs. Claudine Grant married when she was 18 and lost her husband less than six months later to the ravages of war. Her heart is too bruised for anymore foolish whims, and she's determined to never marry again.

Hudson Lockley, the Earl of Wyndam has led a decadent life. He doesn't believe in love or marriage, but he does believe in pleasure. He lost both of his parents as a boy and was raised by his grandmother. He refuses to allow anything emotional into his life. One major devastation was enough to turn him cold—except in bed.

Claudine befriends Hudson's grandmother. They cross paths often, and over time Claudine wonders what a night of true passion would be like. The earl would make a spectacular rogue for one night.... Seduction takes them down an unexpected path and perhaps an all-consuming love neither had planned.

great society and characters

Claudine (Grant) married young but she got also widowed early. She was kind of "adopted" by a secret widow society. She was taken cared of instead of relying on her disapproving in-laws.She met Earl Lockley and there was instant connection which they had denied. The masquerade ball changed them.

This is book 2 but my first for the wicked widow's league. Impressed with the creation of this society and their ideals. They developed a good strategy to hide Claudine as well as befriend a lonely, and poor widow. Enjoyed also the added love story. (NOTE: Has mature scene in the story)
Enjoyed this book and planning to read more of the author's books. I recommend to watch for her stories and enjoy them.

Great Addition to the Series

This second installment of the WWL series was well written and kept me entertained from start to finish. The narrator did a fantastic job of making this a fun listen.

This story was perfect

Two people determined to never be attached again crash into a situation that they feel they can control only to learn they have no idea what they truly want. The characters were great and the plot was fun to follow. This was a very heart warming story and I loved it.

Good story

The second book in the Wicked Widows’ League series. Widow Mrs. Claudine Grant and Hudson Lockley, the Earl of Wyndam's story is short and held my interest as I listened. I enjoyed seeing them get their happy ending with the ups and downs they went through. The narrator did a good job of the story.

Her Rogue for One Night!

This is the second story in the "Wicked Widows' League" but can be enjoyed as a stand alone. There are connected characters along with the Wicked Widows club. This story is about Hudson, the Earl of Wyndam, and Claudine, a widow who married at eighteen. She fell in love, or thought she had, at eighteen and married. Her husband died shortly after and left her father as guardian for her care. Hudson is very close to his grandmother, who is in the widow league. He comes to visit her when he meets Claudine. He never wants to marry but is enamored with Claudine. There is a strong pull and attraction but she does not want marriage ever again. She wants her independence and is buying time to get it from her father in law. I enjoyed this story and thought the narration was nicely done. I love the characters in this short and quick read/listen.

Claudine and Hudson

This is a sweet novella. A group of widows in the ton founded the Wicked Widow league. I was hoping for more “wicked”, butt this is a wonderful group of ladies who care for each other. Claudine’s new and young husband went to war, and she quickly became a widow. Hudson is the grandson of one of the founding members of the Wicked Widow League. Claudine and Hudson story unfolds. For the regency era, he is a sweet and charming young man. This story left me looking forward to the next in the series! The narration was well done. Hudson and Claudine

Claudine was only eighteen when she eloped with her husband. He died in the war shortly afterward. To her dismay, her husband had made his father her guardian in the event something happened to him. She found refuge with the Wicked Widows’ Club and the Dowager Countess of Wyndham. When she and Hudson Lockley, Earl of Wyndham and Lady Wyndham’s grandson, met, they were instantly attracted. Neither wishes to marry, at least that’s they thought. They agree to have one night, just one night. Will it be enough?
An entertaining romance, a loveable hero and heroine, and a happy ending. Alexandra Lee Smith’s narration was enjoyable.

A Rake In Love

A Rake In Love

This is a very quick-listen or quick-read novella, and though it has a few flaws, I found myself absolutely charmed by it. The heroine is a relatively new member of the Wicked Widows’ League (which isn’t as wicked as they are believed to be), and the hero is the rakish grandson of the group's founder. The group is supportive and assists widows in finding their way in the world, keeping them from potential dangers or difficulties, like the issues the heroine was having with her former father-in-law when she joined. Marriage and the marital bed weren’t quite what she was hoping for, so she feels a little compunction to marry again or even have an affair. I loved watching both her and the hero grow in this short book. The hero was utterly sweet and swoon-worthy once he realized how much she had come to mean to him. Once he's in that mental place, the things he says to her are sweet, romantic, and charming; he’s everything you want a historical book boyfriend to be. I love stories where rakes fall HARD in love when they never expected to find it. He was so attentive in their first intimate time together—when he knew he wanted more from their relationship but wasn’t going to push her—making it about her and her needs. Sigh! Lovely! The book is relatively low angst, and I love the epilogue that shows them and their family five years after the main story’s end. The book beautifully combines steamy and sweet. If you like that kind of Regency romance as I do, you will probably enjoy this delightful story.
