Publisher's summary

The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times best-selling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland's father was her hero - until her shocking discovery that her mother and she weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who's as damaged by her father's mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa's efforts at redemption, but it's not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he'll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again....

I'm not sure Hero is my Hero

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes. I love Samantha Young's On Dublin Street characters and wouldn't have believed it ifI were told by someone else these characters were a bit ho-hum.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I love the background story of how Alexa Holland's and Caine Carraway's lives were entertwined and how they came to work together. I thought the plot here and the content of the writing was very inventive and interesting. I would say the first 3/4 of the book kept me interested. But I got bored with Caine's pulling back again and again -- it felt tired. And when he came around, he came around in such a way that seemed very in consisted with his character. The ending felt rushed and not well thought out. The incident which triggered all this did not bother me but I wish it had been woven in a little earlier. I really wish the back section were rewritten altogether.

Which character – as performed by Angelica Lee – was your favorite?

Alexa Holland

Was Hero worth the listening time?

Yes. It was good. But I was hoping for great. I want to read about another Braden Carmichael!!!!

Any additional comments?

I will now wait a while before I buy Samantha Young to first see what other reviewers think.

Excellent Romance

Would you consider the audio edition of Hero to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

While the Middle Class heroine meeting a Wealthy businessman isn't new, the progression of the relationship was actually refreshing. Alexa's comedic moments were awesome and realistic. Loved her spunk.

Have you listened to any of Angelica Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love this narrator. Her deliverance is always awesome.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed, of course. I also cried. Bur while I understood Alexa's issues, Caine's issues just didn't seem significant enough to warrant his attitude.

Any additional comments?

Great book, great listen.

I really enjoyed this book! The reader is really good. Plus, the influxes in her voice were distinct enough that she pulled off all the characters by herself! The likes all aspects of this book;storyline and all! Just a sexy read!!

Fantastic

I loved the narrator. One of the best audio books I've ever heard. She was Alexa. She read it with such conviction and passion. When Alexa cried in the book I cried along with the narrator.

I can see why people reread this book several time, SO Good!

I am surprised at the negative reviews. I loved this story, this is the 3rd book of Ms. Young’s books (previous were the Dublin St). I preferred this story over the Dublin, this story’s plot feels “grown up” compared to my immature back and forth like in the Dublin series (don’t get me wrong, I really really liked the series). This is grown up problems in a grown up world and 2 adults having to fight through grown up issues to find their way.

Samantha Young is spectacular are writing characters who aren’t obtuse to dumb to the circumstances. If there is a problem, no one turns a blind eye or pretends not to notice. This book is so gratifying because thru all the angst honesty and maturity is seen all the way through. In my opinion many authors think creating MC who don’t see the problem or don’t see the lie or don’t want to see the pain creates angst, and yes it does, but it’s so unrewarding that it’s not resolved until the end. This leaves the whole story really around one story arc. In contrast, ms Young’s books have MCs who are all aware and make choices based on the plot, this allows the sorry to develop in many ways because it’s not just about “the big reveal or secret”. This is close to real life where there is a conflict, her characters react in a way people do (not keeping big dark secrets until the end of the book or the male MC too unaware to notice this issue) and the story becomes about how the characters react and triumph (or fall). That’s a great story!! PLEASE SAMANTHA WRIGHT MORE!!!
