Publisher's summary

The lady captive: Being a daughter of one of the Legendary Bastards of the Crown proves to be a blessing as well as a curse for Fia Douglas. Having both English and Scottish blood, she is being fostered in Northumberland per the late English king's wishes. This puts her far from her beloved family and homeland of Scotland.

When war breaks out between England and Scotland, Fia finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Alone with a wounded Highland spy in the late queen's secret garden, she ends up being kidnapped by the Scot and brought back to the Highlands, where she is now a prisoner in her own land.

The Highland laird: Laird Alastair MacPherson is wounded and left for dead after being ambushed on English soil. When he stumbles into a secret garden in the woods to find refuge, he discovers a red-haired beauty whose life he'd saved several years earlier. She is inclined to help him so she can pay back the favor. But when his life is threatened once again, he is backed into a corner and has no choice but to use her as a hostage to escape.

Can a rugged Highlander love a lass whose secrets threaten to ruin his one chance at redemption? And will a woman who has fallen in love with her captor be able to betray him if necessary?

A wonderful story.

Another great story by author Elizabeth Rose.
I enjoyed every word, as I was captivated from the start. I thought the dog was hilarious and really enjoyed the humor added to this wonderful and romantic story. This was the first time I listened to Kevin E. Green’s narration, and I really enjoyed it.

Fast paced and entertaining

This is a good paced story with plenty of action. Fia is a thoughtful and caring woman but also brave when needed. Alastair is a laird who is handsome and brave but has conflict within his own clan. Their attraction to each other is evident from their first meeting, however there are many obstacles in their way, including Fia’s allegiance to both her English relations and her Scottish family. The narrator had an easy voice to listen to and he used different voices for the characters to bring them to life. His voice for Alastair was a bit gruffer than I imagined but this didn’t spoil my enjoyment. This was an entertaining audiobook and I look forward to hearing about the other women in the series

I ENJOYED THIS FIRST BOOK IN THE SERIES

I did enjoy this first book in the series by Elizabeth Rose. It was a great way to start the series with some likable characters. I liked the fact that it wasn't the same old plot that he doesn't want to fall in love and/or she doesn't want to fall in love. Just the right amount of steam and innocence.

If I had any problem with it at all it was a so-so narrator. I felt he sounded a little too old for the characters he was portraying. However, once into the story, I was okay with it.

I would recommend this book and I have purchased the second in the series to start... NOW!!

A wonderful, original story!

I really enjoyed this book. The story is original, the characters are great and I love that it speaks to the ability of women. The narration could've been better, in respect to the female voices. The narrator doesn't do a very good feminine voice.
