Publisher's summary

Have you ever spoken unkindly to yourself? Do you even realize when you do? Are you ready to make changes but find yourself completely paralyzed by the choices in front of you? We live in a hyper-connected, “always on” world, and frankly? It's exhausting. Let’s make time to disconnect from the distractions and reconnect with yourself.

Hiking My Feelings: Stepping into the Healing Power of Nature is more than a collection of trail tales - it’s a guide to aid (or begin!) your healing journey, helping you do the work to step up into the best version of yourself.

Over the course of our lives, not only do we pick up our own trauma, we carry things for others - their fears, their insecurities, their expectations for how we should live our lives. So many of us are wandering through life wearing an invisible backpack full of those things, and it can be heavy. The weight of the stuff we are silently carrying is killing us slowly. We as individuals and every level of our communities are affected by trauma. When we don’t get help, unresolved trauma manifests as mental and physical disease.

Join Sydney Williams as she unpacks her "trauma pack", sharing the story of how hiking helped her reconnect to, and heal, her mind and body - kicking her limiting beliefs and type 2 diabetes to the curb in the process.

Changed My Life

Came across this book at the right moment in my life. I was struggling with a lot of unprocessed emotions and trauma due to my sexual assault that I didn't know what to do. The author's experience and how the outdoors helped her process her trauma gave me the motivation to do the same, and it truly did help. I highly recommend to anyone that needs guidance on how to process trauma and to anyone that's in search for their purpose in life.

Exactly what I needed

Great book, so insightful and helpful after the past year of quarantining alone with my emotions and baggage for the last year! Very positive and a real look at acknowledging your past and why identifying your emotions. Plus I'll be listening to ot again as I prepare for a big hike this summer!

Powerful and life changing

Sydney’s story somehow becomes your story too. As you read, you make connections that seemed fuzzy or out of reach before - which would be uncomfortable if Sydney were not right beside you, making sure you’re not alone, and bringing you through it.

This book is positivity, light, humor, tough lessons, quick chuckles, hard realizations, solutions, breakthroughs, and it will change you.

And make you really excited to hike.

Made My Eyes Leak

I really love this audiobook! I could feel the author’s energy and emotions come through in her voice. In fact, my eyes leaked quite a few times because I got so caught up emotionally in her story. A wonderful account of her resilience, love, and following her dreams. Prepare to be inspired, laugh, and cry!

I highly recommend this book- very well done!

Great book

I wasn’t sure what was going to take place with this book but I’m so glad I finished it. I hike part of the TCT and hated it! Maybe I should try again. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Relatable story on growth and healing

The author prefaces her book stating she’s neither a therapist nor a professional hiker, then invites you to join her in this incredible journey of growth and healing. She’ll captivate you with her humor and beautifully eloquent story-telling that will make it hard to put this one down. Her story is both relatable and deeply insightful. It will also inspire you to get out and connect with nature to unpack parts of yourself you never knew you were there. Highly recommend!

A memoir of body trust and hiking

It is not about A thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, but it doesn’t need to be. It is about hiking and the kinds of benefits that I have personally experienced related to the healing path found in walking meditation. Even when you don’t think you’re meditating, hiking offers a space where you can allow your body to process all of the things that are built up and held within it. The book is not an instruction guide. It is merely a memoir (I love memoirs) but I think it offers to each of us a reminder of our individual strength so that we can navigate life in this society rife with body image issues, health diagnosis, and personal, deeply personal, experiences that we need to dig in to, process, and heal from.
