Publisher's summary

She'd been arrested? Mia couldn't believe what was happening to her! How could the police accuse her of killing her ex-fiance?! She was a kindergarten teacher! But here she was, standing in front of the judge, her eyes wide with fear and confusion.

Into this chaos strode the largest, most handsome man she'd ever seen in her life! Ash Thorpe stepped into the courtroom and took charge, not just of her defense but of Mia's heart. He was funny, kind, intelligent and charming. He had but one flaw in Mia's eyes: he thought she was a murderer!

How could she have lost her heart to a man who didn't trust her? Her life had been so simple 24 hours ago. Now she was confused and lost in a sea of insanity that only got more crazy by the minute. And the only man who made sense, who helped her wade through the complicated judicial system, didn't believe in her.

Ash had a thorny problem. It wasn't enough that he was trying to navigate the dangerous waters of a murder trial, he was falling in love with his client! To give in to his urges would be an unforgivable breach of ethics, but so would be giving less than his best! Ash and his team were running a mile a minute trying to come up with a strong defense, but his concentration was suffering from the emotional and physical responses that Mia's presence created. He might be able to save her in court, but would he lose her from his life?

Lawyer story

I found it to be a good story and enjoyed it, little short that it felt a little rushed at the end , but I liked it ... I did find Mia to be a little whiny for me...I really liked Ash and the others in the story

Yummy Quick Read

Such a fun quick read. I will say that there is the whole sped up relationship. Feelings happen within days and I guess I can overlook that. It is one of those things you have to ignore in a romance.

Love Mia, she is so sweet and delightful. She is a great match for an arrogant guy like Ash. They are a compliment to each other her sensitivity and innocence balance out his control and seriousness. I love them together, especially when they banter!

The narrative is mixed, mostly the two leads POV, but some supporting cast as well. The supporting cast is sure to be heard from again in their own stories. I like the mix and all the insight the reader garners in this style. The downside is when it gets jumpy. Some of the sections are very short and it gets dizzy following who has taken the lead. Maybe it is clearer in writing?

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Viv Williams, who is fabulous. She has a wonderful tone and brings life to the read. He energy throughout is a real compliment to the storytelling. Love the quick pace of this read, it feeds into the action of the story. I will definitely be looking for more of her reads!

The book does have one smexy scene, which is a open bedroom door. It does not have as much detail as an erotic novel, but it does have some sweet steam! Yummy!! There is delicious chemistry from the very start.

I can not wait to read the other brothers stories! You get an idea of who their ladies will be and a hint of things to come. I wish they were all out in audio, like NOW!

Great listen

Would you consider the audio edition of His Captive Lover to be better than the print version?

I think that the print version and audio version have there own merits. They both give you different perspectives.

What was one of the most memorable moments of His Captive Lover?

The most memorable moment is the time when all of Mia's neighbors come to help fix her house

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator could have spoken more clearly in some places

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes I could not stop listening

Any additional comments?

The background noises are really distracting

Just ok

This book was ok. The premise is good but I never really could get invested in the characters. There wasn't any character development.

Great story

Highly recommend this. It was well narrated and well written. Left a lovely feeling once completed and hard to resist listening to once begun.

Very nice..

Any additional comments?

Don't listen to the three 1 and 2 star reviews on Amazon, listen to the fifty-five 4 and 5 star ones. This is a really cute short story. Loved Ash and Mia, the story, all the secondary characters, the sexual tension that, eventually, led to some great sex. Loved the brothers, Ryker, Zander and Axel, can't wait to read their stories. Very entertaining.

As to the narrator: She was just ok for me. She read with no emotion at all and when a man talked in a "deep commanding voice" or in a growl or a sneer, whatever, it was just a little to feminine for me. She did a terrible job of lowering her voice to sound manly. There are 3 more books in this series and I'll read them all without listening. I usually like to read along while I listen but not with this narrator.

I would also like to say that the description tells us what the book is about or we can zip over to Amazon and look at reviews. This is AUDIBLE! What we need to review is the narrator. Does he or she suck? Why? Is he or she too nasal-y, too sweet for the kind of book he or she is reading, to gruff, too bland, too robotic, lacks emotion. Is he or she doing nothing but reading the book? Not changing his or her voice for the male and female voices? Is the narrator sounding the same whether she or he is reading a whisper spoken?
Most of us on AUDIBLE don't really care what the book is about. We want to know about the narrator! IMO..
