Publisher's summary

The would-be heroine...

Aeron wants nothing more than to continue to live out her very long, solitary life in a small metal room listening to communications for the Federation Military. It's not glamorous. It's not even charming. But it's safe. There's no chance of getting hurt.

When she intercepts a communication about the impending genocide of the Qurilixian people, she has no choice but to act. No one at the Federation seems inclined to do anything about the threat and suddenly it's up to her to save a whole planet. Enlisting the help of her degenerate sister, Aeron finds herself signed up as a prospective bride to the very barbarians she's trying to save.

The man who did not need saved...

Dragonshifter High Duke of Draig, Lord Bron, is not looking forward to his seventh failed attempt at a marriage ceremony, but when he sees the lovely Aeron he knows instantly his years of waiting have finally paid off. The gods have blessed him with a life mate... or have they? His new bride is insistent she's not there for marriage, but for a mission. It's up to Bron to convince her to stay, or risk spending the rest of his life alone.

ABOUT THE SERIES: The Noblemen brothers aren't new to the sacred Qurilixian bridal ceremony. After several failed attempts at finding a bride, it's hard to get excited about yet another festival. No matter how honorable they try to live, it would seem fate thinks them unworthy of such happiness - that is until now.

With very few words spoken and the shortest, most bizarre courtship in history, they will bond to their women forever. And once bonded, these men don't let go... Too bad nobody explained this to their brides.

Finding love while trying to prevent genocide

Where does His Highness The Duke rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love the Dragon Lords series by Michelle M Pillow. This book just adds to the story of the Draig. It's hard to rank it when the whole series is so good.

What was one of the most memorable moments of His Highness The Duke?

When Queen Mede explains to Aeron about the Draig marriages. She has to much patience with Aeron and takes the time to welcome her to the family.

Have you listened to any of Melissa Barr’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first book I have listened to that was narrated by Melissa Barr. The way she narrated made you want to keep listening to see what happens next.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Aeron explaining to Bron about how her home world was destroyed and why it was so important to her to do whatever necessary to prevent that from happening to another planet.

Any additional comments?

This is the fifth book in the Dragon Lords series. I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were very interesting and full of life. It's a wonderful book about a person who cares enough about others and is willing to do whatever needed to prevent another tragedy. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Aeron is a civilian analyst for the Federation. She intercepts a communications transmission about a possible genocide attack of the planet of Qurilixen. When the Federation does nothing about it because Qurilixen is not part of the Federation, Aeron decides she has to do something. Unfortunately, the inhabitants of Qurilixen don't allow many ships to land on their planet. She steals a ship and head to place her sister, Riona, is to ask for help in getting the info to the inhabitants. Aeron interrupts Riona just as the dice is thrown in a game causing Riona to lose the game. Riona's solution to getting to Qurilixen is by signing up with Galaxy Brides to be part of the Draig Breeding Festival.

Lord Bronislaw, the High Duke of Draig, is not looking forward to the Breeding Festival. It's his seventh year of attending but it's his duty to attend since his royal cousins are attending for the first time. Bron just knows he is not going to find his bride again and doesn't pay attention to the brides as they walk past. He is shocked when his crystal lights up and he realizes he missed her. After the other grooms collect their brides, he walks past all the other brides to figure out which one is his. He finally stops in from on Aeron. It takes convincing to get her to go with him. Things don't go as planned once they reach the tent. She is obsessed with getting to the King to tell him of the planned attack and tells Bron over and over that is the only reason she is there. Bron tricks her into taking off his mask and that's when things really get out of hand. They end up consummating their marriage when it is forbidden. Bron leaves her in the tent by herself all night to atone for his sins.

The following morning he must present her in front of the council as his wife. She becomes obsessed with the crystal when he gives it to her to break. The King and Queen are very upset about the way Aeron reacts to the crystal. Bron has to take it away from her, pick her up then drop her on the crystal to get it to break. Once broken, Aeron remembers why she is there and tries to tell the King while denying she is married. When Aeron doesn't shut up about it, the King drugs her and orders Bron to take her to the hunting cabin so he has time to get his marriage in order.

Aeron awakens during the trip to the cabin. She is adamant that she is not married to Bron. While there, Bron disappears. She starts heading down the mountain and runs into his brother, Alek, and his new wife, Kendall. After Alek finds Bron in an ancient dungeon, Bron takes Aeron back to the castle so he can talk with the King about the possible attack. King Llyr tells him to look into it and take his bride home. They reach Bron's home and find that his brother, Mirek, has married Riona who is in a coma.

How will Bron get Aeron to accept their marriage? You will need to listen to this to find out.

I want a dragon lord

As with the other stories I listened to in the Dragon Lords series I loved the premise, a little scifi with a medieval feel to it. This pairing is a bit easier for the fact that Aeron finds out from the beginning that Bron is a dragon shifter. But that doesn't mean it will be easy for them to come to common ground. She is a courageous woman, even if she doesn't think so at times, crossing the galaxy to help save a planet from annihilation. Loved her sister and her wild ways and I hope to listen to her story next. And Bron... sigh... I want a Drague Lord too.
Melissa Barr's voice is really nice, perfect for the female characters, but I think it falls a bit short for the male characters, especially these dragon warriors where I would expect to hear a deeper pitch.

The Duke's Story

What did you love best about His Highness The Duke?

Aeron did come to love Bron. He was so starved for love that he totally missed his forever love. When Bron thought he was not going to find his bride & totally missed her because he was looking at his feet instead of paying attention to the paraded brides. His crystal glowed but when he looked up all the brides paased by. He did not know what she looked like & had to wait & go to each woman to see for whom it glowed the brightest. It glowed for Aeron. Bron & Aeron really had a bad beginning, but it worked out for them.

What didn’t you like about Melissa Barr’s performance?

Her performance was very choppy & it was very distracting. She did not flow in her narration. It was very much like she was reading a script.

Any additional comments?

Just because the narrator was bad the story is great. I really love the way Michelle Pillow continued each story in real time from the point of view of the main characters. So it was all happening at the same time from their POV. I look forward the next book.

A New Threat to the Qurilixian

His Highness The Duke is the fifth book in the Dragon Lords series. Lord Bron, the High Duke of Draig has found his bride after seven attempts. Of course, he wasn't expecting his bride to show up but his crystal glowed.

Aeron Grey, a communication specialist in the Federation Military has intercepted a message of an attack to Qurilixian. Against all orders, she risked her career and safety to deliver a message to the Quirilixian people of an impending genocide attack from the Tyoe. The only way she was able to get to Qurilixian was by Galaxy Bride to go undetected.

Aeron has repeatedly told Bron that she was here to be a bride but to seek an audience with the King to warn them of an attack from space. Bron has his own agenda which was to make his marriage to Aeron worked.

As with each story in the Dragon Lords series, the enemy is the Vers, who inhibits half of Qurilixian. This story introduce a new threat and also add Aeron's sister Riona as a secondary character to the story.

This book take the series to a whole new direction in how Qurilixian is going to interact with the rest of the galaxies. Being an island is not going to work for them anymore. I can't wait to see what will happen next.

I was given this audiobook by the author for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in writing this review.

Is it finally his turn at love?

What did you love best about His Highness The Duke?

The Lord Bron finally has gotten his forever love but is not an easy task. Aeron is one tough female.

What other book might you compare His Highness The Duke to and why?

All of the books I have listened to in this series. Each male finds a bride but has to work hard to gain them.

What three words best describe Melissa Barr’s voice?

Strong, Clear, Good

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Aeron learns all that is involved in marrying Lord Bron and when she learns of her sister.

Entertaining and new story line for the Draig

I really enjoyed His Highness the Duke. Aeron is a Federation analyst that has to find a way to get to remote planet to warn the Qurilixian people. Only she doesn’t realize by enlisting her sister’s help that she’ll be going as a bride. Once on the planet, she has to keep moving forward to try to warn the people.

I liked her now husband, Lord Bron. He seemed the most reasonable of the Draig warriors. He took her threat seriously and while it did take him a while to understand how to work with having a wife he wasn’t overbearing about it. I did feel that Bron was a little bit naïve at times that when he should have been there with Aeron, he left her.

I felt for Aeron as she struggled with realizing that she couldn’t go back and then realizing that she didn’t want to go back. Bron was very understanding in interpreting what Aeron as a child had thought her mom had told her about herself, things that shaped who Aeron was.

While this is the 5th in the Dragon Lords series, it is a new storyline and you don’t have to have listened or read the first 4 in the series.

short but just as good

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend only if they are unable to read the book themselves. This book is a part of an amazing series and if you can't read it yourself, then listening to someone else do it is a better alternative.

Did Melissa Barr do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I found that I enjoyed her voice, but of course she didn't sound how they did in my head. I felt that she did a good job reading overall and even voicing the characters and making appropriate inflections and attitude for the characters, but I could not completely fall in love with the pairing of her voice and this story.

Any additional comments?

This is the 5th book in an amazing series. It's a little shorter than the other 4 but still packs a lot of excitement, fun, and romance between the pages. Bron is a serious hero but oh so lovable as only Draig men can be. Aeron had a one track mind in saving the planet, but with a sexy, alpha, male as a mate how can you not get a little side tracked. I found this story to be funny, adventurous, hot, and a great read and an enjoyable listen. I loved their story years ago and enjoyed it just as much now.
