Publisher's summary

Joel Reading was lonely.

Nineteen years old, estranged from his family, and seemingly unable to ever get a second date, he'd surrounded himself with the things he loved most: old books and old music.

When one date got out of hand before it even began, Joel found himself displaced from a flooded apartment and on the doorstep of a handsome and older stranger more than willing to take Joel in for the night.

Gabriel Hunter had waited years for the right man.

When a distressed Joel showed up at his door needing a place to stay, it was more perfect than Gabriel could ever have hoped for. He quickly found himself falling for the complex and beautiful boy he welcomed into his house and started to believe in a future with the young man he adoringly called Little Red.

Unfortunately, Gabriel was a man of many secrets, and they threatened to unravel the delicate relationship he was building with Joel.

Would Joel be able to see beyond Gabriel's deliberate omissions and give their love a chance, or would Gabriel's kind of love prove to be more than Joel could handle?

The Lonely Hearts Stories are interconnected stories that weave characters together across the releases. While you would appreciate the characters and their journey by starting from the beginning, these can be listened to as stand-alones.

Is Being A Creepy Stalker Ever Justified?

According to this book the answer is “YES”! It is only if you’re a step-uncle, named Gabriel; whose motives were protective and whose motives evolve from step-family love to intimate love as, “Little Red AKA Joel” grows and matures to manhood over the years of protection.

What happens when “Little Red” realizes that he has been stalked and tracked for years before his step-uncle appears as his “savior”? Of course Joel and Gabriel break up when all is revealed. However, absence makes the heart grow fonder, which leads to the predictable final reunion.

Another story element is a big power inequity between Joel and Gabriel. Gabriel is a rich important attorney and Joel is a poor but proud sales person. This inequity is balanced when Joel inherits a $1,000,000 trust fund he did not know about, until the end of the story.

Ultimately this plot turns on subterfuge, a hidden distant relation identity that falls very close to a gross ick factor of near miss incest. It takes a breakup and the prospective of time to sort out that technically their love falls within the permissible limits of social convention.

I'm not sure about this..

SPOLERS
I was hoping for cute creepy stalking but I don't know.. The way Gabriel isoleted Joel from everyone who could have been interested in taking him on a date kinda sat wrong with me. The actual stalking was kinda cute and creepy but.. I can't help but wonder if Joel would of been so okay with it if he had had some other relationships before.

Awesome!

Awesome start to the series. I loved Kenneth Obi narration before and this hit all the right spots. Joel and Gabriel's story was so unique and new for me that listening to it first instead of reading it was perfect. Each character had their own personality and voices that fit. Easy to hear and understand as it flowed together and a tone that set the pace for this exciting story that only Kate Hawthorne could deliver. Can't wait for the next.

Creeper.

I loved this book. While Gabriel is a major creeper he is still really sweet towards Joel. I really recommend this book. Kenneth Obi did a great job with this book.

Love, Obsession, and Stalking

A sweet love story with a side of stalking and obsession. Joel Reading has been kicked out of his family because he's gay. He's alone and struggling until he meets Gabriel who changes his world. To Gabriel, Joel is his world, and there's nothing he wouldn't do for Joel. I love the intensity of love between Gabriel and Joel, as well as the obsession and stalking. This was a fun story with interesting characters and hot sex scenes.

Kenneth Obi does a great job with the audiobook narration. I loved his performance and found the audiobook very entertaining.

Is it possible to be both sweet and creepy?

His kind of love is book 1 in the Lonely Hearts Series by Kate Hawthorne. This book is perhaps summed up best as a wounded boy meets a sweet, yet somewhat creepy hero. I really didn’t want to like this book based on the blurb, but the narration quickly turned this into a 5-star read for me. The emotion and vulnerability that Kenneth Obi portrayed in Gabriel (and the rest of the characters too) truly redeemed that character for me and allowed me to see him as more than just a stalker. Don’t get me wrong, Gabriel is still creepy with severe stalker tendencies, but he also believes he’s doing it all to protect his boy. I guess it’s the perfect example for doing something not so right, for maybe the right reasons and I can’t say that prior to listening to it, I would have made that same conclusion. Joel is sweet and dorky and I loved his passion with holding onto history (and old bibles) because he didn’t really have one himself, perhaps that’s a passion we should all cultivate in ourselves more often. Kudos to both Kate Hawthorne and Kenneth Obi for reminding me about both of these lessons in this wonderful start to the series. I can’t wait for book 2.

Hot stalker/guardian romance... thumbs up!

I really loved this age gap story with a dark edge, narrated brilliantly by Kenneth Obi! Lots of steam and plenty of feels. Highly recommended.
