Rhythm Matters

What did you love best about Holy Ritmo!?

Joe Caldwell has discovered a thread of rhythm that pulsates through virtually every aspect of life. He gives many detailed examples of life being inter-connected via beats, rhyme, rhythm and ultimately God. Whether it’s the soothing sound of a mother’s heart beat, the rise and fall of the lines of a poem, the energy of a Latin dance, or the physics of the combustible engine, rhythm (or ritmo) is there threading the needle of connectivity between us and the world. I had never thought about the buzz of rhythm that goes on around me and in me as being a type of spiritual glue that keeps me connected. God has provided a host of different ways to find us, tranquilize us and keep us in perfect peace. Now I can add rhythm to one of His ways. Something to ponder. Salsa anyone?

Ritmo is poetic

Caldwell explores how rhythm (Ritmo) flows through the universe in scientific, mechanical and musical arenas. From Salsa music to the beating of a human heart, there seems to an intricate design or unifying theme that points to a sovereign Creator.

How fun to journey from our body's smallest cell to the vastness of the universe and to see how we are all connected to our creator and each other. Profound message

Dancing with a Cosmic Rhythm

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would most definitely recommend this book to a friend. Joe Caldwell takes the rhythmic nature of life and brings it to it's logical origin. It's a great audio book for a contemplative person looking for meaning.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Holy Ritmo!?

The climax toward the end when the real life observations were brought together.

Which character – as performed by Joe Caldwell and Zoe Galvez – was your favorite?

I imagined Joe Caldwell as a wise old sage and Zoe Galvez as a lovely Latin Assistant in their reading of this book. It was a very pleasant combination of voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book kept me contemplative the entire time. It requires one to open up and honestly grapple with the thesis of the book.

True Originality

What made the experience of listening to Holy Ritmo! the most enjoyable?

I liked the interplay between Joe and Zoe. It had a ritmo all it's own.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Holy Ritmo!?

Realizing how it all amazingly works together. I never considered the number of heartbeats and breaths that we take in a day, year and lifetime and how that is connected to the rise and fall of the sun every 24 hours. Also, how we value creativity and that we endeavor in a sense to emulate or create something original. It's humbling to realize that while we as human beings think that we may have created something original, it is indeed just a copy or inspired by someone else's previous work. Joe has made an argument that there is an original designer. As a result not only do we derive our own sense of rhythm, creativity and personality from the latter, but our very breath and heartbeat is dependent upon the original 'I AM'.

Which scene was your favorite?

The Salsa and ChaCha examples of personality, culture, creativity and rythym. Makes me want to tap my feet just reflecting on it...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. It gave me a deep appreciation of what I take for granted every day. An overall reaction to the book is joy.

Any additional comments?

The incredible beauty of God's creation wrapped in the mystery that is beyond our understanding has been to a large degree made less complicated and simplified by reducing it to the essential rythyms of life as described by the author. Thanks Joe.
