Publisher's summary

An amazing story of courage and character that you will not want to put down.

After two and a half years of deep depression, anger at God, and guilt over the death of her husband and twin girls, all bestselling romance writer Jessica Lynn Morgan wants is to buy a house, get back to writing, and live out her life alone in peace. And the little town of Hope, Wyoming, seems to offer the peace she needs.

Or does it?

Unfortunately, her dream house is rumored to be haunted. Not one to believe in ghosts, she fights for any logical explanation for the things happening that seem to warn her off. Once she moves in, the threat against her life becomes real. Clearly, someone or something wants her out. Now.

Will her stubbornness cost Jessica her life?

A clean, sweet story with religious undertones

Good story! It has a bit of a Nancy Drew flavor to it mixed with religious (Christian) undertones. I never would have figured out the "whoddunnit" part by myself (I often do!)

The narrator has a soothing voice, and it didn't bother me much that she didn't do voices- I could still tell who said what. The reading pace was a bit too slow for me so I had to change the setting to 1.10x.

Not my cup of tea

The story seemed to have a slow build up. I went into this story thinking it was a suspenseful romance, but I didn’t feel the suspense very much. There was some mystery, but it played out so slowly that it didn’t grip me like a true suspense normally does.

The narrator didn’t have much emotion and it felt like she was actually just reading, not necessarily narrating. I just didn’t feel it.

I certainly hope more people will give it a try. Just because it didn’t do it for me doesn’t mean it was all together bad. The growing romance was sweet and the little boy was adorable. Hope this can speak to the right people.

Great Read

Hope was a good read by Josephine Walker. Best Selling romance author Jessica Lynn Morgan has spent the last two and a half years depressed, angry at God, and with guilt over her husband and twin daughters death. She now wants to buy a house, start writing again, and live out her life in peace. She moves to Hope, Wyoming and her dream house is rumored to be haunted. She does everything to logically figure out what’s going on since she doesn’t believe in ghosts. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.

Not quite as dreary as the cover might suggest

Hope is a fictional (?) town in Wyoming, an emotional construct, and the name of this novel, which several readers seem to have loved. I found it tolerable at best, but I listened quickly and was happy to put it behind me. There is a Nancy Drew-level suspense story going on as well as a coming-to-terms with grief story and a small-town romance. None of them was enough to really capture my attention or interest, though non was offensive. Instead, my concentration was broken when the grieving mother of tragically killed 7-year-twins remarks repeatedly that she's never learned to cook even simple dishes. Did the children eat at McDonalds every night? Then there's the house that keeps getting broken into. It took almost half the book for anyone to think of changing the locks. There's a fair amount of saying grace and seeking God's blessings and solace, much of it happening when everyone's chowing down on God's butchered creatures. But all's well that ends well, I guess, and the well-narrated book will doubtlessly please many listeners. I requested a complimentary copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Heartwarming

After living a life of tragedy, Jessica is trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel. In her little town of Hope, everything she wishes for seems possible, until strange things start to happen inside her home. Is there a ghost or is it something more insidious trying to get her to flee?

Overall, a good romance/mystery story. I liked Clint and Jessica. They were relatable characters with their own little quirks. Jessica especially had a sharp personality, and her optimistic outlook on life was refreshing. I loved the way Clint took care of Jessica. The relationship between them was easy.

The plot of the story was unique. Even though there was a lot of suspense, to me this story felt more like a literary fiction piece than anything else. With the amount of character development that Jessica went through between finding herself and her love for God, this would make a good read for fans of Christian fiction.

Narration was okay, but a little slow.

I'm really surprised that I finished this listen

I did not like the narrator. There. I said it. Lambert had a pleasant enough voice but that's where it begins and ends. Emotion, tension, humor, variety, all was lost. I should have put the book down the first time a six-year-old boy sounded just like a forty-year-old woman. The fact that I didn't was a testament to the story itself.

I loved this story. I loved the religious undertones. I loved the romance that played out in the backstory. I loved the mystery (although I figured out what was going on waaay before the end.)

This was a good story. The narration was not.

Suspenseful!

I loved this book! It was very suspenseful and kept me turning the page ( so to speak:-) to find out the answer to the mystery. Also the authors voice is delightful! It gets five stars from me and now I’m off to see if this author has any other books!

A great Christian mystery

This story pulled me in quickly and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were likable and drew you into the story. I enjoy a good mystery and this didn’t let me down. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. The sweet romance aspect was a nice bonus. I would recommend this to my friends.
