About this listen

From number-one New York Times best-selling author and literary phenomenon V. C. Andrews (Flowers in the Attic, My Sweet Audrina) comes a shivery Gothic tale of romance, class divisions, and the secrets that haunt families for generations.

Ever since Fern could remember, she and her mother have lived as servants in Wyndemere House, the old Gothic mansion of the Davenport family. She may have been a servant, but Fern developed a sweet friendship with Dr. Davenport's son, Ryder, and she was even allowed free range of the estate.

But Dr. Davenport has remarried, and his new wife has very different ideas about a servant's place. Now Fern and her mother are subject to cruel punishments and harsh conditions and aren't even allowed to use the front door.

Yet, for all her wrath, the cruel woman cannot break the mysterious bond between Ryder and Fern. And when Ryder invites Fern to join his friends at prom, there's nothing Mrs. Davenport can do to stop them, nor can she continue to guard the secret that haunts the women of Wyndemere - but there's nothing she won't try.

After all, reputation is everything.

I've loved V C Andrews books since I was young

and I'm glad the stories are continuing in her style but also caught up in the current time. another solid storyline, well delivered and good narration. looking forward to the next in the series!

Good book, but very much a bore.

I have been an avid VC Andrews fan for years. I used to read these books and finish them in 2/3 days. This book disappointed me very much. Not much happened and very predictable. I enjoyed parts and pieces but even the climax had very little excitement.

leaves you wanting to continue on to the next book

as with all V.C. Andrew's books I love them and wish there were movies to go with all of her books.

Predictable and a bit anticlimactic

I used to be obsessed with VC Andrews but this one was just kinda boring. Idk if I have outgrown the author so maybe it’s just me. It’s an okay teen drama

Great book

Another great VC book. This kept me on my toes and interested. I was able to guess some outcomes, but still suspenseful and kept me thinking. I wasn’t TOO fond of the narrators voice, especially when she spoke a males part, but hey, didn’t change the face I loved the book.

Predictable

The narrator's voice was very calming but not overly so. The story was slightly predictable on certain aspects, but I've come to realize I can predict most of this author's books. Won't read again or listen again, but I enjoyed it.
