Publisher's summary

He's a cowboy widower with wounds in his past. She's a brokenhearted city slicker seeking refuge. Can rancher Rhett Montgomery overcome his bitterness and loss for a second chance at love?

When Danielle Roberts discovers her husband of three years is cheating on her, her life falls apart. On a whim, she retreats to the small town of Cedar Falls, freshly divorced and hoping to lick her wounds at Montana Wilds Ranch Resort.

Rhett Montgomery works himself to the bone, burying the sorrow of his past in his business and avoiding his sister's attempts at pushing him back into the dating pool. So, when one of his ranch hands is injured and a long-term visitor with clear blue eyes and long dark hair offers to take his place, he refuses her help. But his sister intervenes, and before he knows it, he's stuck with a female ranch hand.

Why does he have a feeling this is just another one of her set-ups?

Too bad he'll have to squash any hopes of a blooming romance between him and the newcomer.

Yet, somehow, the more he pushes Danny away, the more she softens his heart of stone.

Danny and the Grumpy Cowboy

Danny was much calmer than I would be walking in on her husband in bed with her best friend. Her marriage over, no job and friends since they were all connected to him, a brochure for Montana Wilds drops into her lap and she decides to take a vacation to reassess her life. Rhett was a callous jerk when Danny offers to work for money when she discovers he's short staffed. He gives her the job of shoveling stalls and chopping wood when he could have used her organization, administration, and people skills. When she almost dies from multiple bee stings he just acts like well she couldn't do the job he gave her. He acts like a caveman when other men are interested in her and strings her along kissing her when he's still hung up on his deceased wife. I wanted to shake him so many times. I liked Rhett's feisty sister Tess and I'm looking forward to her romance.

The narrator has a nice tone with inflections, emotions, humor, and voice changes in the right places.

Loss and love

Two characters that have both experiences loss have to find their way to a new happily ever after. Both had found their HEA to have it ripped away from them, one by infidelity and one by death. The way forward for Dani was much different then Rhett’s as they dealt with loss completely differently. Rhett shut himself off from others and was bitter and grouchy. Dani left her past behind in search of a new future. It was a sweet story. It was my first book by this author and narrator. I didn’t really like the male voices but otherwise I enjoyed the narrator.

Wanted to like this more than I did

Perhaps the story was too short to show believable emotional growth, but the H seemed to go from grieving curmudgeon to lovestruck and lusty (or was it lusty and lovestruck?) a bit too quickly. Although I don’t drink, I couldn’t wrap my head around a tough cowboy type sitting on the porch with a glass of wine. The narrator was good with most female voices, unfortunately, the male voices sounded old and ill. I’m voluntarily leaving this review and am so sorry to write a less than glowing critique after receiving this audiobook through a promotional code.

Great story

I absolutely loved this story! It is filled with wishes, lost hope and amazing characters. This really pulled me in from the beginning. Looking forward to listening (or reading) the entire series. Kristina Fuller Yuen does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life.

I couldn’t stop listening to it!

My heart couldn’t help but constrict at every single bad stuff that happened, right from the very beginning. The series of events were quite outrageous and then it was such a beautiful thing to see how love changed things at the end.

Two Hurting People

Danny is newly divorced and needs to get away from her life in the big city so she decides to spend two weeks on a ranch. Rhett owns the ranch and is still hurting after the tragic death of his wife several years past. Rhett does his best to push Danny away but his heart has other plans. Enjoyable book and narrator. I look forward to more of the series.

Spoiler free review

this is both a new to me author and narrator. the story was pretty good, but I think I would have enjoyed it more reading it. the character of tess, the voice was a little annoying. the male voice was okay, I've heard better, but also worse. everything else wasn't bad. just hard to get past tess.

Rhett’s grumpiness is no match for Dani.

Rhett is the ultimate grump-ever since he lost his wife to a car accident. Dani has a new divorce when she catches her cheating husband. She loses her job and friends along with a ex and she needs a new beginning. She moves several states away and is a long term guest at a dude ranch in Montana. She starts working at the ranch but Rhett is the grumpiest boss as he tries to ignore feelings he has for her. Rhett is sooo rude and grumpy and it’s only as Dani determines to not let him get to her that his heart starts to soften. This is about moving forward after great loss and disappointment. There are a couple of situations that are a stretch, but overall a great story. There is some mild faith elements and it’s clean and wholesome. There is a wonderful town that is welcoming and looks out for each other, and there are 4 brothers and a sister we want to get the romance scoop on.

How to Deal with Heartache?

My thoughts about this book:

• This story drew me in. I wanted to know how two different people dealt with disappointment and heartache.

• I enjoyed getting to know Danny. She had a wonderful attitude and was a very interesting character. She was the star of this novel.

• I wished this novel was longer. I would have liked more insight into Brett's character earlier on. He was really rude and brash. Almost unbelievably so. I've never heard of or met someone who treated people so harshly.

At my request, I was given a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author. I have voluntarily left my review and my opinions were my own.
