Publisher's summary

What We Do in the Shadows with the small town feels of Gilmore Girls in this swoon-worthy romance that will leave listeners delightfully cozy and hungry for more.

When Cassandra Camberwell returns to her hometown of Hollow Brook to clear out her late grandmother’s ramshackle old house, the last thing she expects is Seth Brubaker on her doorstep. Her former best friend was responsible for the worst moment of her high school life, and she can’t imagine he wants to do anything but torment her all over again.

Until she unearths the real reason this annoyingly gorgeous beast of a man keeps hanging around: he’s an actual werewolf, who’s certain she’s the witch that will ease his suffering. But Cassie just isn’t sure if she can trust him again. So Seth offers a pact: he’ll teach her all about her undiscovered magic, and she will brew the potions he needs. No feelings, no funny business, just a witch and a werewolf striking a deal.

Totally doable. Until they get hit with a do-or-die mating bond. And now the heat is rising, in between fights with formers bullies and encounters with talking raccoons. They just have to not give in. Unless giving in just might be the very thing they never knew they always wanted.

Good story

This is the first book I have listened to by this author, and I really enjoyed it! It had an interesting plot, very well written characters, and a great ending. I really enjoyed the story and the narrator did a good job too. I will definitely look into reading/listening to more books by this author.

Middling Story, Poor Narration

I’d listened to ‘When Grumpy Met Sunshine,’ also by this author, and liked it a lot, so I gave this title a chance. At best, it was all right. There’s a lot of profanity. The characters seem stuck in high school, when a pivotal event occurred, rather than fully grown adults. The two mains seem to be unacquainted with sarcasm or irony and often take everything the other says quite literally. The narrator is dreadful. She mispronounced several rather common words, and her voicing of the male characters was awful, particularly Seth, who sounds like he’s doing a bad imitation of Keanu Reeves in ‘Bill & Ted.’ Some elements of the story were good, like how Cassie’s powers work, and how she can affect her environment. But on the whole, not a great effort. About a third of the way through I increased the speed to x1.5 just to get through it. I appreciate that Ms. Stein uses plus-size leads, but it would be nice if she wrote one who has more self-confidence and less self-doubt.

Funny with a Good Narration

This paranormal romance is filled with so much spice, swoon-worthy moments & laughter it is an absolute delight to read! I was entertained the entire time and there are many hilarious laugh out loud moments. There are very few paranormal romance writers that can me laugh as much as I did with this book. I have to recommend reading (even listening) to this book!

Yael Rizowy does a nice job narrating this book. I loved how she voiced both Cassie & Seth. And she had so much enthusiasm at just the right moments. And I laughed so hard when she narrated the funny moments of comments said out loud or in Cassie's head!

This book is simply too delightful, hilarious & magical to pass up!
