Publisher's summary

An unstoppable virus. Humanity’s last stand has failed.

In the aftermath of a devastating global pandemic, what would you do be prepared to do to survive? Where would you go? Who could you trust?

The UK survivors of a pandemic flu virus hide behind the high walls of a medieval fortress, struggling to rebuild in a world without electricity or government. Scraping a living far away from the smoking ruins of the cities, they wait in hope.

Hurst Castle stands alone. Its 74 occupants united in a struggle for survival against all the odds. The Millennial Virus is the least of their concerns. When the arrival of outsiders threatens to tip the balance of power, the people of Hurst are faced with a desperate choice: set aside their differences and join an alliance that promises new hope or unite against the newcomers and their plans for reconstruction.

Who can be trusted? Only time will tell.

The battle for Hurst has begun.

If you enjoy fast-paced post-apocalyptic stories such as The Day of the Triffids, The Road, Station Eleven, The Stand, and The Atlantis Gene, you'll love the Hurst Chronicles series that weaves together history, science, and social commentary in a dark, dystopian pause-resistor.

Ok book

It was ok. Not the best one I’ve listened too. Haven’t decided if I will continue with this series

Survival skills, good and bad

Crumby's characters are familiar, despite the situations they face. Some respond well. Some are miserable--violent, selfish opportunists who (fortunately) generally get exactly what they deserve. Sadly, in Hurst, you learn that many of the rest of us will have to suffer while the petty despots have their day. You'll never see Britain's national parks in the same way after reading the Hurst Chronicles series (books 2 and 3 are even more fun!).

Refuge in Hurst CastleI

No zombies or monster but plenty of action caused by human desires to be at peace and others looking to conquer. And throw in the fact that there is a virus which had killed thousands of people. Is there hope that someone can eradicate the virus? I like this story as it all could be true. I am going to read the next book to find out what has happened to the main characters and see if Hurst truly is strong enough to with stand another attack.

Tremendous story!

I love this story and will follow-up with the rest of the series. This story jived very closely with my ideas of what will happen during a post-apocalyptic event. I highly recommend this book and series. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
