Publisher's summary
Read by the author.
"For anyone wanting to elevate their interview skills, this superb book does the job!” —STEPHEN M. R. COVEY, New York Times bestselling author of The Speed of Trust
Go into your next job interview with confidence, ready to knock any question they throw at you out of the park!
The key to landing that dream job or big promotion often comes down to how you perform in the job interview. After bombing some interviews early in his career, Sam Owens vowed that would never happen to him again and began work on a system to ensure he was ready for even the most oddball questions in future interviews. The system he developed proved so successful, Sam built a career coaching business around teaching it to others and has now coached thousands of people on how to prepare for interviews.
In I Hate Job Interviews, Sam shares his proven methodology and provides simple frameworks and demonstrations on how to answer any type of job interview question. Using this proven system, job candidates will gain confidence in answering introductory, behavioral, hypothetical, opinion, personal, think-on-your-feet, salary, and self-awareness questions. You will learn:
- How to craft “power" examples to show how your skills align perfectly with the job you are applying for.
- To conduct practice interviews so you are ready when the big day arrives.
- To make a big first impression with that first question.
- To tell compelling stories that clearly demonstrate your abilities.
- Simple strategies and frameworks to nail hypothetical and scenario questions.
- Salary negotiation skills to maximize your job offer.
The worksheet and checklist can be found in the audiobook companion PDF download.

Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair. The Antidote is a series of journeys among people who share a single, surprising way of thinking about life. What they have in common is a hunch about human psychology: that it’s our constant effort to eliminate the negative that causes us to feel so anxious, insecure, and unhappy. And that there is an alternative "negative path" to happiness and success that involves embracing the things we spend our lives trying to avoid.

Conventional interviewing advice doesn’t work. That’s what Anna Papalia learned through years of experience as an HR professional, consultant for Fortune 500 companies, and teacher at the Fox School of Business. None of the existing tools work for one simple reason: they don’t get to the heart of what actually makes a great interview—self-awareness. At its core, an interview is a set of questions about you. If you don’t know yourself, you won’t do well.

Recommend for all want to succeed in job interview
The author truly understands what it is like of job search experience. He went through the same painful journey in the internship job search. I appreciate how Sam Owens makes arguments for dedicating time, specifically ten hours, to prepare for job interviews, and he provides frameworks that simplify the preparation process. I've listened to the audio three to four times, and I wish I had this book earlier!

One hour determines ten years
I had never thought about how a one hour interview can make or break your working life for the next ten or more years. Opportunities of a lifetime or missed opportunities hinge on a few simple questions you need to answer successfully. Sam Owens makes compelling arguments for putting in the time (ten hours) to prepare for job interviews and gives you the frameworks to make preparation simple. I have already recommended this book to my family and friends. Get that job you want!

Help you get hired at Google
I failed my first interview at Google. I was determined to scour the web and talk to all my business mentors to figure out how I could interview better.
But none of this research compared to when I learned of Sam and his principles of interviewing. Sam condenses multiple careers'worth of interviewing expertise into a simple, fun and easy to listen to audio book.
One year later I interviewed and passed, largely due to Sam's principles of interviewing

The must-have interview prep book!
I wish I had this book 20 years ago! Such a phenomenal book. I can’t say enough about how valuable this book is.
Great frameworks. Interesting stories. And actual examples that allow you to listen to how these principles get applied.
Every college/university student that’s interested in getting a job after graduation should buy this book upon getting accepted. I’m buying this book for my daughter that’s just starting college.
I’d also recommend this book for anyone else going through a job search/upgrade process.
