Publisher's summary

I Was a Teenage Monster Hunter! How I met Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, & More! by Sam Irvin. Foreword by Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

This unabridged audiobook is narrated by author Sam Irvin, with guest star voices of Cassandra Peterson, Jane Seymour, Stephanie Beacham, Olivia d’Abo, Juliet Mills, Maxwell Caulfield, Linda Hayden, Madeline Smith, Chloe Franks, Alex Hyde-White and Julie Brown!

Hollywood filmmaker Sam Irvin (director of Elvira's Haunted Hills, executive producer of Gods and Monsters, author of Kay Thompson: From Funny Face to Eloise) looks back at his outrageously charmed and hilarious life as a closeted gay monster kid who, as a teenager, created his own fanzine, Bizarre, as a conduit to meet his horror film idols.

The book is part coming-of-age memoir and part collection of Sam’s vintage 1970s interviews and encounters with Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Donald Pleasence, Diana Rigg, John Carradine, Ingrid Pitt, Jane Seymour, Alec Guinness, Stephanie Beacham, Linda Hayden, Madeline Smith, Ralph Bates, Shane Briant, Michael York, Margaret Leighton, Robert Morley, Jonathan Frid, Patrick Magee, Joan Collins, Robert DeNiro, Hervé Villechaize, Terence Fisher, Robert Fuest, Brian De Palma, William Friedkin, Brian Clemens, Sir James Carreras, Michael Carreras, Freddie Francis, Roy Ward Baker, James Bernard, Forrest J. Ackerman and scores of others.

You will be astounded by Sam’s intrepid adventures, including spending a day on the set of the James Bond film the Man with the Golden Gun as a personal guest of Christopher Lee–and the crazy limo ride they took back to London with a very drunk Hervé Villechaize! Or the time Vincent Price recognized Sam at a West End theater and took him backstage to meet Diana Rigg! And that all happened on the very same day!

Glad I paid for it…however…

Sam’s anecdotes are fun, and informative. However, the delivery can sometimes be so camp, that I found myself needing occasion breaks from the schmaltzy delivery. That being said, I’m glad I bought this audiobook. It was worth the listen.
