About this listen

Big and brash, Jeff Zack didn't hide his rough lifestyle. And when he died, it was in plain sight: executed in the parking lot of a BJ's Wholesale Club in Akron, Ohio, by a motorcycle-riding assassin dressed in black.

Jeff Zack's murder stunned investigators - but then, so did his life. A long list of people might have had reasons to want Zack dead, including the loyal wife he had humiliated and the wealthy nightclub owner whose wife - a blond, hard-bodied beauty queen - he openly dated. But the truth would get even stranger.

In this shocking true story of adultery, mind games, lies, wealth, and sexual liaisons in upscale Middle America, true-crime master M. William Phelps tells the astounding story of a man who loved the wrong woman - and was brutally murdered by a killer with the deadliest possible motive of all.

Something’s Missing

I love the author and the narrator, so why didn’t I like this book? Maybe it’s because the victim isn’t very likeable. None of the real life cast of characters in this book make me want to care for them. I understand that you can’t always choose the victim. Ok, but you can choose to tell a more interesting story.

Fascinating Complex

A long intense investigation with many twists. Reminds me of the murdered Dan Markel and the Adelsons.

good but not great

I have read a lot of Phelps true crime and unfortunately this one felt very rushed. a lot of details were put in the beginning on things that turned out was not important to the overall case and that was frustrating to realize towards the end.

Great true crime audiobook

Very good true crime audiobook. Both the author and narrator did I great job. Kept me interested till the very end. Darn shame that she got away with her crime. In this life anyway. Her judgement will come one day though.

overall another great true crime yarn by Phelps

This book a was a quintessential true crime. it had twists and turns; mystery, sex and great investigative reporting. As always, J. Charles was excellent! I love his narration for this genre.

Ugh!

This is so boring!!! I'm not sure if it's just the narrator or the story itself. I can't finish listening... it's torture.

Just a very shallow and boring story. I tried to listen for a couple hours but just can’t take it.

Kill Me Please!

Way, way, WAY too long!!! I kept hoping it would get better, more exciting. Nope - too long and not that interesting a case. Save yourself and pass on this.
