About this listen

Caprice Rydell makes a wish and flips a coin into a fountain, and her life changes. Just for starters, she learns her father is a bigamist, and it's straight downhill from there. If that news being revealed on national television isn't embarrassing enough, it all happens in front of Mill Crocker, the captain of the school polo team and the most gorgeous guy she's ever seen.

Mill thinks she's adorable - but wishing isn't reality - and he thinks she's got what she wants. In a panic to right everything, what Cap wants is to reset her life back to normal again by getting that coin in her wet little hand. One more problem: Just how can she find it among the thousands in the fountain?

Reality TV in Real Life

Caprice Rydell is in the midst of a major crisis; her parents are getting divorced, and her mother has moved them across country to start a restaurant in a small town in California. Unfortunately for Caprice this is only the beginning of the nightmare, as her life and family are opened up wide before a national TV audience as her father shows just how self involved he is. Combined with her family issues is her infatuation with the best looking, most popular guy in the school. As if all this wasn't enough their relationship puts her in the cross hairs of the wrong girl, and her troubles just keep growing. A really nice high school girl coming of age in the midst of chaos and being suddenly thrust into the bulls eye of the modern media culture; Caprice is trending.

This was a good short listen to book

Would you listen to If Wishes Were Horses again? Why?

No, I don't re-listen to books.

What did you like best about this story?

It's simplicity

Which character – as performed by Jessica Martin – was your favorite?

Caprice or Cap as she is called in the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

The one thing I didn't care about in the story is is lacked some dialog in explaining some things about her father's new life. It feels like there could've been more story in this area. It leaves the listener wondering . The story would've been 5 stars had it felt like a complete story.

This Was Really Enjoyable

I really enjoyed listening to "If Wishes Were Horses." Barbara Morgenroth is a good author and this story held my attention throughout. The protagonist Caprice was a likable, sweet character who I could identify with.
When her and her mother move to Cadiz California and open up a restaurant, she doesn't really like it although she began to get used to it. She meets new friends who help her feel a bit more settled. She's also able to go to the Polo Club and ride. But when her father calls and invites her to visit, then he turns up on a TV show with an embarrassing announcement, all hell breaks loose.

I wish the story had been longer and I hope for a book 2. I say this because the book ended a bit abruptly leaving me wanting to hear more. I think this would make a great series. There was good, believable world-building, great characters, and had all the elements to continue.

Jessica Martin did a good job narrating this story. She was easy to follow and had a pleasant voice which was perfect for Caprice and the others. If this story continues, I hope she stays on as the reader. I feel she could really grow with the story line.

Good Start

This is a Good Start.... I wish it was Longer & things were explored a little more! More Details Given & A bit more time on Character Development!! there is A LOT OF POTENTIAL & I'm excited to see where this goes! The Hardest part for me is JUST WHEN IT'S GETTING GOOD.... IT'S OVER!
