About this listen

An instant USA Today bestseller.

Bestselling author Lucinda Berry serves up a haunting thriller about four friends sworn to secrecy over the events of one fateful summer—and the dark truths that threaten to erupt years later.

They never considered how his wife might react, or that by the end of the summer a man would be dead. But Blakely always got her way, and the others followed her lead—even when they knew it was dead wrong.

The girls had been friends from day one at Camp Pendleton, a haven for gifted children. But their senior summer was different. When Mr. Crosby, the handsome tennis coach, wound up murdered after a reckless lie, Blakely, Grace, Meg, and Thera swore themselves to secrecy. And never spoke to each other again.

Until now. Twenty years later a sinister note claiming to know what they did brings them back together. And once again Blakely is pulling the strings.

Unfolding in a dual timeline, If You Tell a Lie is a disturbing journey into the dangerous, sometimes deadly consequences of peer pressure—with a bone-chilling twist you’ll never see coming.

Brilliant plot

Fabulous story and great narration but the ending of the story was terribly, terribly disappointing

Another winner from Lucinda Berry

I usually enjoy Lucinda Berry books more the second time around, so my stars might go up.m

A lie told at camp results in murder and ruins the lives of a family. Or was it the truth. At a camp for gifted children, four teens have been friends for a decade.

Twenty-six years later the women come together after receiving mysterious letters from the recently released murderer. Or were the letters from someone else.

Some teenagers grow up to become better versions of their youthful selves. Some don’t.

Characters

I really enjoyed the different points of view and the fully flushed out for girls in the description of sociopath was really good and spot on. It was just a very interesting story. I listen to it a day and a half.

Bad ending

The ending was very disappointing. Too many unanswered questions. The build up was slow and too long. Not my favorite.

Who needs enemies with friends like Blakely?

I enjoyed this book and could easily follow along with the "Then and Now" timelines. I think what frustrated me the most was that none of the friends stood up to Blakely until Grace finally did towards the end, but by then, it was much too late. This was a very believable story as well, and unfortunately, things like this happen all the time in everyday life, which is just shameful. There was only one good character in the entire story, and sadly, things didn't end well for him at all.

Not worth the read.

The book itself was ok, some stories were a but confusing, The ending was absolutely terrible, unfinished, too many unanswered questions, it feels like the writer had to go somewhere so the ending was quickly finished without thought or quality. Very disappointing.

Chilling

Excellent story but disturbing. Characters are brought to life by the narrators. I think this is Berry’s best work to date.

Nope

Barely kept my attention! Not a great story and the ending sucks
It’s like the author was writing and the all of the sudden she just quit.
I don’t recommend this book

Kept me guessing!

I love Lucinda Berry- she never disappoints. AJ Cook did an amazing performance of the story. I thought about this book when I wasn't listening to it! Like most of her books, this one has the darkness of real life that keeps you on your toes while trying to figure out what is true and what really happened. When this one ended I had so many feelings but would never spoil someone else's experience so I will keep them to myself lol.
